Stephen King is headed back to the big screen. Carrie, the iconic movie about an outsider teen who is dead set on revenge, is being remade with Chloe Moretz in the title role.

Carrie was originally played by Sissy Spacek, and the image of her covered in blood, the result of an unwise prank, has become one of the most recognizable images in the history of movies. Well, now it’s Moretz’ turn to take the blood bath.

The first image of Chloe Moretz as Carrie was released today, and Director Kimberly Pierce gave people exactly what they wanted to see: the young actress soaked in blood.

Moretz said:

“We only (had), like, four chances to get it right … Because that stuff stains your hair.”

Entertainment Weekly notes that Spacek was 22-years-old when she played the troubled teenager in Brian De Palma’s rendition of the Stephen King novel. Moretz is only 15, but she already has a slew of complicated, violent, and impressive roles under her belt. She played the murderous Hit Girl in Kick Ass and teenage vampire Abby in Let Me In.

Carrie, however, could be Moretz’ most violent role yet.

Entertainment Weekly also revealed an image of Julianne Moore as Carrie’s abusive, religious fundamentalist mother.

Moore said:

“This woman has clearly had a psychotic break, perhaps severa l… But what’s sad about it for me is that she’s clearly sick and here’s this poor child in the thrall of this person who is seriously ill. And on top of that, they have this mother-daughter relationship. So we want to make that relationship as meaningful as possible, even though it is horrible and destructive.”
