‘Game of Thrones’: Daenerys Rises From The Flames, Reclaiming Her Title As Khalessi

Daenerys Targaryen has had a lot of momentous moments on Game of Thrones. From the time she rose from the flames with her baby dragons to when she surprised that slave master by speaking Valyrian and then having him set on fire, Daenerys knows how to make a statement. She does not bow down, and you will remember every single one of her names by the time she’s through with you.

In “Book of the Stranger,” the fourth episode of Game of Thrones Season 6, Dany finally had enough with the Dorthraki. After being taken by Khal Moro and then escorted to the Temple of the Dosh Khaleen, Dany was told in the previous episode that as a widow of a Khal she was meant to stay in the temple. Because she hadn’t come right after the death of Khal Drogo, she may face punishment. Now in the fourth episode she was set to face Khal Moro and the other Khal’s to hear what her punishment would be.

Prior to that, however, Jorah and Daario finally arrived to save Dany from the Dorthraki, even though at this point they should know by now that Dany doesn’t really need saving. Although they were willing to take her away to safety Dany turned down their offer, knowing that even if they left, the Dorthraki would come looking for her. Instead of running, Dany decided to face off with the Khals.

Dany then stood in the tent and listened as the Dorthraki leaders discussed what they would do with her. She said nothing as they discussed her fate until finally she asked if she would have a say in the matter, to which Moro said of course not. Ignoring him, she went on to explain how Khal Drogo promised to travel west and take back Westeros for her, crossing the Black Salt Sea like no khal had done before. Moro then had the nerve to mock her for believing Drogo would do it, but Dany ignored him once again, calling him and the other warriors out on their small goals and abuse of women.

“You are small men,” she told them in the Dothraki tongue. “None of you are fit to lead the Dothraki. But I am. So I will.”

Of course, the Khals misunderstand Dany and think she is crazy. Moro tells her that they will all have her way with her but she doesn’t listen or care and just continues to smile as she sets the tent on fire, watching as each of the warriors burn alive. Then, walking out of the fire like the Mother of Dragons she is, Dany appears from the flames naked, and everyone, including Jorah and Daario, bows before her. Naturally, Game of Thrones fans were thrilled.

With Dany as Khalessi once again, this episode Game of Thrones is arguably the best of this season thus far, and fans can’t wait to see what’ll happen next.
