Is Halo 4 already in development?

Even though Halo 3 supposedly wrapped up the blockbusteriest of all blockbuster series in 2007, there’s already a spin-off/expansion on the way, not to mention a prequel to the first game, and that might not be all: we might soon be seeing a direct sequel.

This new wave of speculation was brought to us by the chaps at Gearbox Software, who previously helped port the original Halo onto PC, and have been bragging about having a “massive” unannounced project in the works. Eurogamer asked if that project was a new Halo game, and Gearbox big cheese Randy Pitchford immediately began spluttering:

Pitchford: Haha! We’re not going to talk about anything…

[PR Man quickly interjects]: We can’t talk about that.

Eurogamer: That’s not a no, though.

Pitchford: I appreciate why you’re asking.

Eurogamer: That’s not a no.

Pitchford: Haha! You got any other curveballs for me?

Eurogamer: I don’t think it was much of a curveball. It’s quite a straight question…

Pitchford: It is a straight question, and it is fair. But you understand my… [recording terminated].

No denial then, but Jesus, who’s really going to be amazed if this is Halo 4 ? Halo ANYTHING sells like tickets to an afternoon trampolining with Kim Kardashian. It kind of makes sense that the franchise will be milked ’til its bleeding udders drop clean off.
