Julie Plec Confirms Nina Dobrev’s Return — But Are Fans Pleased?

Don’t lose hope, Delena fans. It looks like there’s a chance that Nina Dobrev could be returning to The Vampire Diaries sooner than expected!

Recently, buzz began again over the Damon and Elena issue because of a voice cameo that Nina Dobrev did for the show. During her cameo, viewers hear Elena call out to Damon [Ian Somerhalder], “Damon… Help me… I need you.” Almost immediately, fans freaked out at the possibility of Elena’s early return to TVD.

“While speaking with TV Line, executive producer Julie Plec shared that she spoke with Dobrev and gave her two options,” Design & Trend reports. “She could go to the studio and do the recording, or they will just get her scenes from the previous episodes.”

“I reached out and said, ‘We can either cobble it together from a bunch of episodes, or you can come in and see everybody and do ADR [automated dialogue replacement],'” Plec explained.

Of course, this is Nina Dobrev we’re talking about — and if she’s anything, it’s committed. Nina definitely isn’t notorious for doing things half-heartedly, and, therefore, she chose the in-person option.

“She chose to do it in person, which was great, because it was a nice little personal Nina visit,” she said.

What fans are left wondering is if this means that Dobrev will only return for the finale or if this means that there’s a possibility that she may come back before that.

“It’s what she and I kind of agreed on when she decided to move on, and it’s what I’ve got in my head,” Julie said in an interview with TVLine. “Obviously things can change throughout time, if the show goes on longer than we expect it to, or if we all collectively decide it would be fun to bring her back earlier, and she wanted to. But in my opinion, she was very clear about what she wanted the next step in her life to be, and she’s doing a great job of achieving that. So I’m sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end.”

Right now, Julie Plec and the other members of cast and crew are keeping any inside knowledge hushed, but at least we can look forward to her almost-eminent return.

The Inquisitr reported in March that Nina Dobrev expressed a serious and earnest desire to return to the show when the time came for the series’ finale.

“Nina has always said that if there’s something for her to do in the series finale that she will be there to do it. When she left, she said, ‘I want to see this character to its end at the end of the show, so I can’t wait to come back and put her to bed again.'”

But in light of a possible Ian and Nina reunion, rumors are now flying that Nikki Reed is not a huge fan of the idea. While there’s no set proof that Reed is jealous of Nina or worried about Damon and Elena relighting the flame, as the Inquisitr reports, we can only imagine that the Twilight star is a little wary of her husband fraternizing with his ex.
