Annie Remake With Willow Smith Eyes Production Start For 2013

Looks like it’s a hard knock life for Willow Smith! Will and Jada Smith’s daughter will be taking on yet another acting role, as little orphan Annie, in the remake of the 1982 musical Annie. The remake is expected to begin production in 2013.

So now that Willow Smith is locked in to play Annie, it only seems fit that rap mogul Jay Z to lend a helping hand to the motion picture’s soundtrack. Back in 1998, Jay Z released his own version of Hard Knock Life, titled “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem).” Back then, the song was a huge hit, peaking at 15 on the US Billboard charts and at number 2 in the UK.

The remake of Annie, which will be produced by Willow Smith’s father, Academy Award nominee Will Smith, will be adapted from John Huston’s screenplay by successful screenwriter and actress Emma Thompson. Of the Annie script, Thompson said, “I have been writing the script for nearly three years; it’s exciting.” Thompson continued, “In the autumn, we get to go to L.A. to work with Willow and work on more of the script … Jay-Z has already started working on the music.”

Although Jay Z will be lending his hand to the soundtrack, the film will include some of Annie’s classic songs, but a few of the songs will be cut to make room for Jay-Z’s additions. The Annie movie music is said to be produced by Will Smith’s company, Overbrook Entertainment, which will be led by Smith’s business partner James Lessiter.

Do you think Willow Smith is a good choice for Annie?
