Hunger Games fans, meet your new Finnick Odair. Lioinsgate announced today that Sam Claflin will be joining the cast of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Claflin, 24, has been rumored for the part all Summer but Lionsgate finally made it official today.
Claflin, who you may have seen in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, or Snow White and the Huntsman, will play Finnick Odair, a dashing former champion of the Hunger Games.
Lionsgate has been working overtime to cast all of the roles in the new movie. Earlier this Summer they announced that Phillip Seymour Hoffman would be playing Plutarch Heavensbee, Stephanie Leigh Schlund would play Cashmere, Maria Howell will play Seeder, E. Roger Mitchell would play Chaff, Alan Ritchson would play Gloss, and Bruno Gunn would play Brutus. (You can see the complete Hunger Games cast here.)
Claflin has only been in the acting game for a few years but he’s already landed some major roles. He started his career on the mini-series The Pillars of Earth and quickly moved on to feature films. He starred opposite Johnny Depp in the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie and fought for Kristen Stewart’s heart in Snow White.
It’s official! Please welcome Sam Claflin as Finnick to the cast of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire! bit.ly/CFCasting
