Michael Vick will be ready to play on opening day, according to Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid. Vick was injured this week after taking a hard hit to the chest.

After Vick hobbled off the field, X-rays revealed that he had not broken any ribs. In November of last year, Vick missed three games after a hit resulted in broken ribs. The teams starting quarterback was expected to undergo an MRI and CAT Scans on Wednesday to verify initial results. Vick has missed games in the past two seasons because of rib injuries.

Vick is expected to sit out Wednesday’s practice in order to allow bruising and soft tissue around his ribs to heal.

The three-time Pro Bowl QB could still play during Friday night’s preseason game at Cleveland but will likely rest his body before the teams season opener.

The Browns and Eagles will face off again during their Week 1 opener on September 9. The Eagles play the Browns again in Week 1 on September 9.

Starting in his place for Friday’s game will be backup quarterback Nick Foles.

Vick won’t miss much during game four of the teams pre-season matchup; quarterbacks typically don’t take snaps for more than one to two quarters of play.

Speaking to Philly.com, Eagles Coach Andy Reid says of his star QB:

“He’s sore. He was trying to talk me into going back in. How sore is sore? He got a good shot there. The precautionary measure is to see if it’s involving cartilage there.”

With three games in 11 days, Reid wasn’t planning to give his starter much field time even if healthy.
