WWE News: Triple H Reportedly Not A Big Fan Of Alberto Del Rio

Former multiple-time WWE champion Alberto Del Rio is floundering on the main roster and the reason is an alleged problem between him and Triple H, according to Daily Wrestling News.

The report mentions that Del Rio is unhappy with his current position in the company. “The Mexican Aristocrat” made his triumphant return to WWE last October by defeating John Cena at Hell in a Cell and ending his reign as United States champion. As part of his return, Del Rio was paired with the now-released Zeb Colter.

However, the crowd did not buy into the “MexAmerica” angle that Del Rio and Colter were performing and it was eventually scrapped.

Most recently, Del Rio spent several months as a member of the now-defunct League of Nations stable alongside Sheamus, Rusev, and King Barrett. The stable did have their WrestleMania moment this year, sharing the ring with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, and Mick Foley but disbanded shortly thereafter.

This is reportedly not what the WWE pitched to Del Rio when he agreed to return last year. The company allegedly promised Del Rio a “main event push” upon his return but that has yet to transpire. The reason appears to be a disconnect in his relationship with Triple H.

Daily Wrestling News writes that while the “Cerebral Assassin” appreciates Del Rio’s in-ring abilities, he is not a fan of him as a person. The report explains that there have numerous backstage incidents between the two men and Vince McMahon has been made aware of it. Triple H’s message to McMahon has been that Del Rio does not deserve a primetime spot and that if he’s given one, he could develop into a bigger problem.

It should be noted that Del Rio was fired in 2014 after slapping a WWE employee for an alleged racist remark. The situation gained a lot of publicity and Del Rio defended his actions on numerous occasions.

In past interviews, Del Rio has expressed that he and “The Game” have not had the closest relationship. While he was not affiliated with the company from 2014-15, Del Rio appeared on the popular interview show YouShoot with Sean Oliver and discussed his interactions with WWE’s higher-ups.

“To be honest, I was always dealing with Vince [McMahon] and some other people, I was never a part of Triple H’s group,” Del Rio said. “Vince [McMahon] was fantastic, he was a big supporter of Alberto Del Rio, he was the one who gave me the opportunity to be in a main spot or to do the main storylines. It was him, he always liked my work.”

Earlier today, Inquisitr reported that WWE is considering signing Lucha Underground’s Melissa Santos. The idea would be to pair her with Del Rio as his personal ring announcer; much like the role Ricardo Rodriguez served years ago. The whole thing would be a part of a re-packaging of his character.

Another source added to Daily Wrestling News that WWE could look to feature Del Rio in a WWE World Heavyweight championship program against Roman Reigns later this year. The reports that this could be WWE “buttering” Del Rio up as there is concern he may be leaving the company.

If that is the case, Del Rio did well for himself for the year he was out of WWE. He competed for promotions such as Lucha Underground, Ring of Honor, AAA, and various other independents. So, if he did choose to leave the company in the near future, he would have a lot of options to continue his in-ring career.
