Lydia Cornell, star of Too Close For Comfort, has filed a restraining order against a “psychotic” fan who made her believe he was a war hero. According to the lawsuit, the man has recently threatened to shoot her and “bash her face in.”

The court filing was placed in Pasadena Superior Court and uses strong wording against the man, calling him a “psychopath.” The defendant is Richard Loland Lewis, a man who befriended Cornell after claiming to be a “secret JAG agent” and a “federal criminal attorney.”

When they first met, Cornell claimed he could help Cornell with her divorce hearing; however, after the actress refused his romantic advances on June 20, things turned ugly.

According to the lawsuit, Cornell stole Lydia’s laptop and began to send her hate mail. The actress also reportedly began to receive vicious phone calls including the incident in which Lewis threatened to “bash her face in.”

The situation became worse when Richard Loland Lewis began asking people online to shoot the Too Close For Comfort star in the “same way Rebecca Shaeffer was shot.”

Lewis has requested a restraining order against Lewis that will keep him away from her an her minor son at all times.

A judge will likely grant the request based on current threats with a temporary restraining order being issued. A future court appearance will determine if a long-term restraining order should be issued against Richard Loland Lewis.
