The teams will meet Friday in the 43rd match of the 2016 IPL, with start time scheduled for 20:00 IST (14:20 GMT).

The Mumbai Indians are looking to maintain the momentum of this week’s big win over the Royal Challengers in Bangalore. Coming off an 85-point loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday and hunting for a playoff spot, the Indians rose to the occasion against Indian national team star Virat Kohli.

The win kept them in the playoff hunt and sets up a pivotal match on Friday.

As First Post noted, the win over the Royal Challengers was the perfect bounce-back match for the Mumbai Indians.

Completely taken aback by conditions at Vishakhapatnam on Sunday, they read the Bengaluru pitch perfectly and based their attacking strategy on it. RCB, however, failed to do so and were caught out by Mumbai’s uber-aggression at the start of their innings.

“While batting continues to be a problem for Mumbai, it was their character that shone on Wednesday and truly set them apart. They could have been pardoned if they had taken a safety-first approach after the hiding they received on Sunday, but they were having nothing of it. They came, they saw and they conquered.”

The win against Royal Challengers Bangalore also helped the Indians move into the top half of the points table, and a win over Kings XI Punjab could potentially move them into the top two.

Fans who watch the Mumbai Indians vs. Kings XI Punjab will see a match important to both sides. As the bottom-ranked team, Kings XI Punjab is desperately in need of a win in order to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. Their last match was a better showing, but they still lost to the Royal Challengers by one run.

As ESPNcricinfo noted, it is the overseas players letting the team down this season, including concerns about Glenn Maxwell’s health. His availability for Friday will reportedly be a game-time decision.

The Kings may also need a big performance from Hashim Amla, who has only played two matches this year and has a strike rate of 88 — far below his career average of 125.47. The team could use more production from him, which ESPNcricinfo noted would allow M Vijay to strike more freely.
