‘Assassin’s Creed’ Movie Trailer Premieres, See Michael Fassbender As Callum Lynch In Action [Video]

Over the past few days, stills from the upcoming movie Assassin’s Creed were released, giving a first look at Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch. Now, the world premiere of the trailer is available for everyone to watch. Check out the trailer in the video below.

Assassin’s Creed is based on the best-selling games by Ubisoft. It is an action-adventure stealth game that focuses on the struggle between the Assassins and the Templars, which has been ongoing for centuries. In each game, players go through a fictional storyline set in real world history. Although the Assassin’s Creed movie is based on the game, fans will not see any of the games’ characters in the movie. Instead, the filmmakers decided to create an entirely new character for the film, Callum Lynch, who will be portrayed by Michael Fassbender.

As reported by The Inquisitr, Michael Fassbender had never played any of the Assassin’s Creed games before signing on as the movie’s lead character. The director, too, Justin Kurzel, admitted that he had never played the game before starting the project. Despite that, fans of the Assassin’s Creed game franchise would be happy to see elements of the game come to life in the big screen. Fassbender, upon signing on the project, did research by finally having a go at the game, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.

“I’ve played it since [being offered the job] mainly to get an idea of the physicality of the character. We’re striving to find something special. We believe the whole concept around it is special and want to service that the best we can.”

Michael Fassbender indeed got into character, with him doing most of the stunts. In the Assassin’s Creed games, stealth is a big part of the gameplay, and the character climbs up walls and jumps off rooftops to get from one point to another. The lead character uses swords, bayonets, blowpipes, bows, and throwing knives to attack enemies. According to Collider, 3,000 weapon props were made for the film, and they even used working wristblades. These elements are present in the Assassin’s Creed trailer. Fassbender talked more about how he did the stunts.

“A lot of the stuff in the game is Parkour. Blades attached to his wrists. It’s about getting in close to the target, close quarters fighting.”

Although special effects were used in the movie, the filmmakers also emphasized practical effects, making actors jump 30-feet to the ground for real.

Coming Soon interviewed Michael Fassbender on the set of Assassin’s Creed, and the actor talked more about the movie.

“I just loved the idea of Templars versus Assassins. This idea of an elite group of people struggling with the idea of free will and these sort of rebels to that elite force trying to struggle for humanity, essentially. And the idea that the original Assassins were Adam and Eve and picked the apple in the Garden was really interesting.”

The Assassin’s Creed trailer shows that the movie will take place in two time periods, the present and 1490s Spain during the Spanish Inquisition. Michael Fassbender plays two characters — Callum Lynch, a death row inmate in Texas, and Aguilar, his ancestor who is a member of the secret society of Assassins.

Assassin’s Creed stars Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, Michael K. Williams, and Ariane Labed. The movie will be released in theaters on December 21.
