Iran’s leadership has not been shy about the way they speak about Israel. Often referring to the “Zionist Entity” as a cancer that needs to be cut out and calling for a full annihilation of the country, Iran has made clear how it feels about Israel’s existence. Now, on the evening before “Jerusalem Day,” the leaders of Iran have upped the threats and rhetoric, and intelligence sources say Israel may act.
Israel intelligence site Debka is saying that Israel may target the upper leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran in order to defend themselves against the march to war. In a 2006 speech, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu quoted a Holocaust Survivor when he said:
“My main lesson from the Holocaust is that if someone tells you he is going to exterminate you, believe him. And I add to that. Believe him and stop him!”
To mark Jerusalem Day in Tehran, Iranian President told a crowd of more than 500 thousand people yesterday that Israel was a cancerous tumor whose existence was an insult to all of humanity. He ended with “Death to Israel, Death to America.”
He was followed by Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who said:
“The fake Zionist (regime) will disappear from the landscape of geography,”
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Aerospace Force Chief, Brig. Gen. Amir Hajizadeh then said any Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities would be welcome “as a pretext to get rid of Israel for good.”
Israel made clear that, while the terrorist groups situated on their borders represent a strategic threat to the county, Iran is an existential threat.
Israel has a long history of assassinations and covert action to face external threats. They managed to locate and extract Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann from Argentina in an operation codenamed “Finale.” They also hunted down and terminated the terrorists responsible for the massacre of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics in an operation codenamed “Wrath of God.”
Leaders of terrorist organizations through out the Middle East can attest to Israel’s will when it comes to this issues. The leadership of Hamas and Hezbollah rarely appear in public for fear of being targeted.
This time, sources refer to the leadership of Iran as being added to that list, while those close to Netanyahu saying he is using the word “decapitation” when discussing the issue.
