Private Media Partners, the company behind Australia’s leading political subscription email service Crikey has soft launched the Crikey blog network.

The network brings together some of Australia’s leading political blogs, including PollBludger and former Senator Andrew Bartlett under the one roof. The Crikey blog network is live now, but I understand that other blogs are to follow, including some leading Australian blogs in excess of 1 million page views a month.

I am technically under an embargo, so I’m not able to name the other blogs (The Poll Bludger has posted, so I can cover that, and what’s live already), but Australian bloggers will be surprised. This isn’t a deal that sees these bloggers write for Crikey, instead Crikey has purchased their blogs, and all previous posts will now reside on Crikey, complete with redirects.

The move is a welcomed step in legitimizing blogging in Australia, where we are a good 5 years behind the United States in accepting blogs as legitimate news sources. Crikey hired the very capable Sarah Stokely, former editor of Lifehacker Australia and before that a tech journalist to run the web side of the business, and I have no doubt that despite the insane rants and drunken denial of new media by Private Media Partners owner and CEO Eric Beecher in Crikey (item #4) today, this is a network that has a wealth of future potential.

hey, have been on FF for donkeys. I read Bartletts article. It's great to see an ex-polly have the forum to write, and present an alternative view to News and Fairfax
