Amber Portwood Slapped With $135K Tax Lien, ‘Teen Mom OG’ Star Faces Money Issues
Amber Portwood has been able to lay low for several weeks now. The beginning of 2016 was hard for her, as much of her life was being thrown into the spotlight because of her soon-to-be-husband, Matt Baier. Rumors circulated a lot, and some truths were revealed. Despite the amount of bad press the two received during last season of Teen Mom OG, Portwood and Baier are still together and plan to get married in just a few months.
Money trouble is about to happen for Amber Portwood. With all of the drama surrounding Matt Baier over the last few months, all of the real issues were pushed back. According to Starcasm, Amber Portwood owes a hefty amount in federal taxes. She has apparently been avoiding paying her taxes, but the amount of time she has neglected to do so is unclear.
The federal tax lien was filed against Portwood back in February, and the records are public. The amount of money owed is just under $135,000. That is a lot of money, even for a reality star like Amber Portwood. There is no indication that the debt was handled, and there have been no comments from Portwood about the lien.
Fans of Teen Mom OG aren’t surprised to learn that Amber Portwood has found herself stuck with tax troubles. Many of these girls were handed a paycheck from MTV that kept getting bigger and bigger, and they reportedly did not receive financial advice from anyone. Portwood once battled a drug addiction and spent a lot of money on things she shouldn’t have been doing or taking. There is no date given for when the money became an issue, but it is being assumed it has happened over the course of a few years. It is unclear how much money the Teen Mom OG girls make per season, but the Teen Mom 2 girls each make $250,000. That is a large sum of money, and if not handled properly, it could cause issues like Portwood is facing.
Although Amber Portwood has not spoken out about the problems she is facing, she likely was served with notice several months ago. Instead, she is busy planning her wedding to Matt Baier. There has been a lot of buzz about him using her over the last several months, but she remains by his side.
Portwood was blindsided by her ex-boyfriend, Gary Shirley, regarding the amount of children Baier had. It was done in front of the Teen Mom OG cameras, and it didn’t go over well with Portwood. While it was clear that Baier wasn’t honest with her, she never talked much more about the situation and now claims to know everything.
Teen Mom OG is currently filming with all of the girls, including Amber Portwood. It is unclear when the new season will air, though fall is being speculated. Portwood has not confirmed or denied whether or not she will allow Teen Mom OG to film her wedding to Matt Baier. The couple did attend last year’s wedding for Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra, and they will likely be returning the invite favor.
Despite Portwood having tax issues now, she is moving on with her daily life. It doesn’t seem to be affecting anything else and isn’t a big deal. After all of the drama Portwood and Baier dealt with earlier this year, a little tax lien isn’t going to make them worry. It is unclear what the consequences would be regarding the lien not being taken care of, but it reportedly could lead to some serious things if ignored long enough. Amber Portwood seems to be getting it together, and handling this tax lien should be on the top of her short list of priorities.
