‘WWE Monday Night RAW’ Preview: The New Era Gets Extreme

With John Cena not set to return to WWE until Memorial Day, WWE Monday Night RAW continues to center around WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns, the new era being ushered in by Shane McMahon, and fresh faces like AJ Styles challenging for the biggest prize in the game. At WWE Extreme Rules in just under two weeks, Styles will get another shot at Reigns’ title in an Extreme Rules Match — and Bullet Club members Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows want to make sure AJ wins.

But that’s not the only title up for grabs at Extreme Rules 2016. On WWE RAW, Charlotte will address the fact that she must defend the WWE Women’s Championship against Natalya in a Submission Match. Meanwhile, Cesaro, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens all think they deserve a shot at the WWE Intercontinental Championship, currently held by The Miz.

Below is deeper look at WWE.com’s official Monday Night RAW preview for May 9. Each week, the site provides the WWE Universe with some borderline-spoilers in regards to the assumed events that will take place on the WWE’s flagship program, live on the USA Network.

WWE Monday Night RAW Preview

As the WWE tears through the Midwest, Monday Night RAW airs live from the Century Link Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Will AJ Styles embrace his ruthless side?

Styles had the chance to clobber Reigns with a chair and he passed on that chance. When Reigns put Styles through a table, AJ began to question whether he made the right decision.

On WWE RAW, the feud between Reigns and Styles continues, and there’s no doubt that The Usos and The Bullet Club will get involved again.

Who deserves to challenge The Miz?

While The Miz certainly isn’t a favorite among the Internet Wrestling Community, the IWC should be happy to see any (or all) of the potential challengers get their opportunity against the current Intercontinental Champion at Extreme Rules.

Since Fatal 4-Way Matches tend to get extreme, it seems like the logical way to book the IC Title for Extreme Rules.

Where is Dean Ambrose?

Chris Jericho pointed out within the first few minutes of WWE SmackDown that Dean Ambrose wouldn’t be in attendance. Now, WWE is teasing that Ambrose may not show up at Monday Night RAW either.

It’s clear that WWE is building to an Ambrose-Jericho rematch at Extreme Rules, so you can expect The Lunatic Fringe to show up on Monday to make the appropriate arrangements.

Is Charlotte running scared?

The Women’s Division in WWE is still in the process of re-branding itself. The first feud put in place over the new belt involves two of the best women on WWE’s roster, from two of the most important families in professional wrestling history.

The real question is whether or not Natalya really has a chance of holding the WWE Women’s Championship. In the meantime, will anything come of the fizzling feud between Emma and Becky Lynch? And where has Sasha Banks been ever since her epic intro at WrestleMania 32?

Will Rusev devour Kalisto’s ‘big heart’?

Rey Mysterio was WWE’s favorite underdog. When over two decades of high-flying, lucha-libra wrestling started to wear on Mysterio’s body, Daniel Bryan was there to fulfill his role. Now that the WWE knows Daniel Bryan will never be back, they need a new “ultimate underdog.”

Kalisto just finished a program with “The Big Guy” Ryback. Now, he’s in a program with Rusev. If it wasn’t obvious, WWE wants Kalisto to be the new Rey Mysterio.
