Dwayne Johnson Promises To Honor Robin Williams In New ‘Jumanji’ Movie

If you can smell what The Rock is cooking, then you know that Jumanji is on its way.

Dwayne Johnson, also known as the Great One of World Wrestling Entertainment, has taken to Instagram to let fans know that he plans to bring magic to the big screen with the release of Jumanji. An adventure of epic proportion, the movie tells the story of a game that is brought to life by two kids that are altogether unaware of the magic it holds. At the time, Alan Parrish is a 12-year-old boy simply enjoying the game alongside best friend Sarah Whittle. He is ultimately trapped inside the game and doesn’t see the outside world until 26 years later when siblings Judy and Peter Shepherd stumble upon the board game and release him. Destruction and shenanigans ensue, and the only way to reverse the mayhem is to finish the game.

According to E! News, Dwayne Johnson has promised that the family and fans of the late Robin Williams will be pleased with the movie. Williams, a hilariously famous 63-year-old actor who starred in movies like Mrs. Doubtfire, Flubber and Dead Poets Society, took his own life back on August 11 of 2014. It was initially reported that Robin was depressed, but later diagnosis led examiners to believe that he suffered from Lewy Body Dementia. His character, the adult Alan Parrish who escaped from the board game, helped bring heart and spirit to Jumanji and its cast members. As such, Dwayne Johnson wants to honor him through the movie’s reboot.

“An important thing that I want to be honest and bring up is Robin Williams. The love and respect I have for this man is boundless,” Dwayne Johnson wrote on his Instagram post. “You have my word, we will honor his name and the character of ‘Alan Parrish’ will stand alone and be forever immortalized in the world of Jumanji in an earnest and cool way.”

Dwayne continued, making it known that he had ideas that fans and family would be proud of.

“I have an idea of what to do and I think his family would be proud. I also think Robin is somewhere lookin’ down and laughing, remembering the first time we met backstage and I (for the first time ever) was a star struck bumbling idiot that couldn’t even get my words out. Idiot. He literally calmed me down with that smile and laugh. But that’s for another fun story down the road.”

Dwayne Johnson is slated to star in the film, as will be producing it as well. There have also been rumors that Kevin Hart will be in the movie, though this is nothing more than rumor at this point in time. Either way, the “Shut your mouth, know your role” actor sounds determined to make Jumanji a treat for both old and new generations of fans. With the technology that we have today, the 2017 reboot will be even more explosive and vast than its former self. Along with the aesthetics, it was reported by Gizmodo that the reboot might even be considered a sequel to the original. With how the 1995 version of Jumanji ended, perhaps the game will be picked up and change will have taken place. Dwayne Johnson furthers the idea of new elements coming to the movie, saying that the old Jumanji has three important roles while the reboot has five.

“Here’s another fun part… in the original movie there were three big roles. In our new story there’s now FIVE,” Johnson said as a tease. “Been so damn cool to see all my actor buddies push their projects aside so hopefully they can come play in our world. Should have cool casting announcements this week. Will keep you posted.”

The Jumanji reboot is scheduled for July 2017. Are you excited to relive the magic?
