‘The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’ DLC Expansion ‘Blood And Wine’ Release Date Leaked, And It’s Before The End Of May

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s second DLC pack was revealed more than six months ago, and players have been eagerly awaiting the next installment in the multiple Game-Of-The-Year-award winning series.

Now, according to GameSpot, The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine DLC’s release date has been leaked through an accidental game page published to Steam. According to the report, members of the NeoGAF forums stumbled upon a Steam store page for Blood and Wine, and reported seeing a listed release date of May 30 (or 31st, according to some reports — probably having to do with the international date line.) The page has since been pulled from Steam, but quick-on-the-draw users managed to grab screenshots first.

The page was taken down quickly, but on the internet, the screenshot is mightier than the sword.

While a Steam leak doesn’t exactly set things in stone, it’s hardly the first time that the Steam platform has leaked information about an upcoming release — and it’s been accurate more times than not. Steam nearly has a monopoly on PC gaming at this point, and it comes as no surprise when information lands there before anywhere else.

As the Inquisitr has reported before, Steam has been known to suffer data breaches resulting in the leak of entire games and series — due to the need to accommodate hundreds of developers the world over, the platform is full of holes, and there’s an entire website dedicated to leaked Steam reveals.

As for The Witcher 3, for such a popular, successful title, it’s only had one DLC release thus far, and The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone only added about 10 hours of gameplay — not too bad for $10, but it left players anxious for more. Hearts of Stone released back in October, and according to developers, had some “negative moments” that they’re trying to avoid with Blood and Wine. And as the Inquisitr previously covered, Blood andWine is intended to add over 20 hours of gameplay to The Witcher 3.

Not that 'The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone' didn't have its own fair share of wine - or blood.

The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine is set in an entirely new region, Toussaint, an area only featured thus far in the Witcher novels by Andrezej Sapkowski, which the game series is based on. Blood and Wine will supposedly be the final installment in the Witcher games, and it’s been suggested that fan-favorite areas and characters from the novels are likely to be featured prominently, particularly sorceress Fringilla Vigo, main character Geralt’s former lover, and duchess Anna Henrietta, ruler of Toussaint.

Toussaint is described as “… a land untainted by war, where an atmosphere of carefree indulgence and knightly ritual masks an ancient, bloody secret,” and promises to be a much different experience from the rest of the game – relatively speaking, anyway. Much like Dragon Age‘s Orlais, Toussaint (French for All Saint’s Day) seems to be roughly analogous to real-world medieval France with its focus on wine, knighthood and the nobility.

In any case, while this isn’t the first time that the Blood and Wine release date was supposedly leaked. According to PC Gamer, an earlier leak from a Czech website pointed to a June 7 release date for the Witcher expansion — this is by far the most likely to be accurate. While nothing says that the date won’t change again, it’s a near-certainty that as of the time that the page accidentally dropped, Witcher developer CD Projekt RED intended to hit that date, and they’ve dropped several hints that bear it out. Blood and Wine is confirmed to be coming in the first half of 2016, and community manager Marcin Momot promised that a lot more information would be dropping about Blood and Wine in May.

Expect to probably see The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine available May 30 on Steam, PS4, and Xbox One, probably for $15-20, or, of course, free for Season Pass holders.
