Prince Still Having A Funeral? Family Reveals Service ‘On Hold’ Due To War Over $300M Estate

Prince’s death shocked the world on April 21, but before fans could wrap their heads around the devastating loss, reports began surfacing about the “Purple Rain” singer’s cremation. Almost immediately after the autopsy was performed, the Nelson family reportedly had a private ceremony to commemorate the life of the iconic singer. But now, new reports have revealed Prince’s siblings are making plans to have an official memorial service where fans can honor his legacy, but there’s just one problem that’s causing a major roadblock and delaying the funeral plans.

According to Radar Online, the Nelson family has the funeral plans “on hold” indefinitely because they are currently embroiled in a legal battle over the singer’s massive estate. By now, everyone is well aware of the ongoing feud between the surviving members of the Nelson family – Prince’s six siblings.

Apparently, the previous “ceremony” news outlets reported about almost immediately after the cremation wasn’t exactly an official funeral. It is now being reported that an actual funeral will take place, but unfortunately, there’s currently no time or date in place. According to People magazine, the Nelson family has released a detailed statement about the timeline of events that have taken place and their plans to have an official funeral or tribute service sometime in the near future.

“Prince and his music influenced so many people that we feel inspired to celebrate his life and legacy in just the right way,” the statement read. “We would like everyone to know that, contrary to previous and current reports, there has been no memorial, funeral or tribute service for Prince that was organized or authorized by the family or Paisley Park representatives,” they confirmed. “Together, the family is planning an official memorial service and public event to take place in the near future.”

The Nelson family concluded with a brief expression of appreciation, thanking fans for their support during this difficult time. They also assured fans that details about the service would be released soon. “We appreciate the public’s patience and have been comforted by your outpouring of love, support and condolences. We look forward to sharing with the world this celebration of, and farewell to, our Prince. Details will be coming soon.”

The latest reports about Prince’s delayed funeral follow a string of reports about the confusion surrounding the singer’s $300 million estate. Since he had no will, biological children or a spouse at the time of his death, his six siblings are next in line to inherit his wealth. However, the legal proceedings have been anything but amicable, and it appears to just be the beginning of a long, drawn-out war.

Initially, the siblings were only battling against each other, but now they are faced with another issue that could be quite problematic if a DNA test confirms what one man claims. As previously reported on the Inquisitr, a man claiming to be the deceased singer’s “love child” has come forward with a request for a DNA test to determine whether or not he’s a legitimate heir to the Purple One’s estate.

Earlier this week, a judge granted the request. So now, the Nelson family must wait for the results to determine if any of them are actually legitimate heirs. If the man in question turns out to be Prince’s son, the siblings’ claims could be considered null and void. Fans can probably expect this legal battle to go on for quite some time. As for his funeral, no further details have been released as of yet.
