‘The Good Wife’ Finale Tonight: What Will Happen?

The Good Wife, the legal and political drama television series that has received wide acclaim from critics and audiences alike, is nearing the end.

The CBS TV Network has officially announced and confirmed that it will be putting an end to The Good Wife after seven extraordinary seasons, and the finale is scheduled to be aired tonight, Sunday, May 8 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.

The Good Wife follows the story of Alicia Florrick, a dutiful wife who decides go back to work as a lawyer after her husband is imprisoned following a scandal. As she tries to reinvent herself and settle down, Alicia’s life inevitably goes through several ups and downs, and it is these challenges that form the plotline of the award-winning television series.

With the show’s finale closing in, fans are curious to know how the seven-year story will end and what will be in store for them in the last episode. Alicia may have finally found love at the right time with her investigator Jason Crouse, however, that may not be the case. According to the Los Angeles Times, Alicia is standing at the crossroads between her scandalized husband, whom she wants to divorce, and the investigator for whom she has feelings.

Currently, people are making predictions as to how the show will come to its final conclusion. Some say that Alicia and Jason will run off happily together, whereas others foresee that Alicia will continue to be a good wife and stand dutifully beside her scandalized husband, even if he does appear ready to start yet another affair. There are even speculations that Alicia herself will be charged with espionage-related offenses.

Some rumors go so far as to suggest that Michelle Obama will make a guest appearance in the series finale.

Hinting that the series ending will be “satisfying, uplifting and sad,” the writers and producers, Robert King and Michelle King, addressed many rumors surrounding the storyline. ABC News reports that there is also a possibility that the character Will Gardener, arguably Alicia’s one true love who was killed in Season 5, will return in a flashback scene before the series ends. And since Alicia’s happy ending is not guaranteed, fans will have to watch out for the dramatic climax in the last episode that will tell how Alicia’s life will evolve further.

And even though The Good Wife is ending, fans can expect to get more of the CBS political drama in days to come after the series winds up. And even though it is too soon to discuss a spin-off, ABC News reports that co-creator Robert King suggested that there is a chance of a spin-off during a panel discussion at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Apart from The Good Wife’s producers and writers, the panel discussion also included the show’s star Julianna Margulies, who plays Alicia Florrick, along with co-stars Matt Czuchry and Cush Jumbo.

Ultimately, fans have to admit that the character of Alicia Florrick is exhausted and needs a long break. For seven long years, the character has faced more drama than most people will withstand in a lifetime. She has been cheated on, humiliated publicly, wrongly convicted, has lost her love, survived corporate backstabbing, and dealt with the ongoing tribulations that come from being a wife and mother, not to mention those from being a female legal practitioner.

In the end, it is never easy to say goodbye to the television characters and the cast with whom the fans have bonded emotionally for seven years. And the parting is more difficult as the television show is one of the crown jewels amongst all other television shows. However, many fans recognize that it is preferable that the seven-year story ends on its own terms and that fans will be able to celebrate the show’s final episode when the cast and the crew are still at their creative best.
