Tom Cruise on Monday took some time out of his day to mourn the tragic Sunday suicide of Hollywood heavyweight director Tony Scott. Cruise appeared in Scott’s movies Top Gun and Days of Thunder, two of the movies that turned Cruise into the superstar he is today.

Scott took his own life on Sunday after jumping off a bridge in Los Angeles Harbor.

Cruise said of his friends untimely demise:

“Tony was my dear friend and I will really miss him. He was a creative visionary whose mark on film is immeasurable. My deepest sorrow and thoughts are with his family at this time.” [E News!]

Hollywood has come out in droves to fondly remember Tony Scott following his suicide and to support his wife and their twin sons. Scott was married to Donna Scott who appeared in Days of Thunder. He is also the brother of Ridley Scott who is best known for his work on Gladiator and Alien. 

Tony Scott left behind a suicide note and in it he instructed whoever found the note to inform certain people about his untimely demise.

At this time the contents of Tony Scott’s suicide note have not been revealed. One source claims that Tony Scott was suffering from inoperable brain cancer.

Other actors and actresses have also come out to support the Scott family and remember their friends.

Keira Knightley wrote:

“Tony Scott was one of the most extraordinary, imaginative men I ever worked with. It was a privilege to have spent the time I did with him. He was a fire cracker and one of the world’s true originals. My thoughts go to his family.”

Kevin Costner added:

“Tony was one of the good guys.  He was a man’s man who lived life as hard and as full as anyone I’ve ever met, but there was always a sweetness to his toughness.  He was truly in love with his profession, and he is already missed.”
