‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 7 Finale: Damon Sacrifices Elena To Save Bonnie? [Theory]

The Vampire Diaries Season 7 finale airs next Friday on The CW network. What can fans expect from Episode 22, which is titled “Gods & Monsters?”

According to Spoiler TV, the synopsis for “Gods & Monsters” reveals a lot is going to happen in The Vampire Diaries Season 7 finale. Stefan will tell Caroline that to help Bonnie and save themselves, they need help from Alaric’s twin daughters. Also, Enzo tries to preoccupy Bonnie at the cabin, but things don’t go quite as planned. This results in Damon having to “make the ultimate sacrifice” in order to save his friends.

Damon Salvatore’s “ultimate sacrifice” is a big theme in the Season 7 finale. However, what exactly does that mean?

There might have been a clue in last week’s episode of TVD. In The Vampire Diaries Season 7, Episode 21, Damon spoke extensively to Bonnie about Elena.

Since Nina Dobrev left The Vampire Diaries, Elena has been in her coffin, unable to wake up from a long sleep. In the Season 7 premiere, a flash forward of three years showed Damon was in a deep slumber. When Stefan gave Damon blood, the elder Salvatore brother was angry. He made it clear not to bother him until Elena was awake.

While this allows Dobrev to return to close out Elena’s story, TVD fans are getting impatient and don’t want any loose ends. Something has to happen with Elena for Damon to move on.

It was teased that the Gemini twins may have a part in saving the day, as previously reported by the Inquisitr. So, could all of these be hints that Elena is Damon’s ultimate sacrifice in The Vampire Diaries? Maybe the Gemini twins will do a switching spell or somehow merge Bonnie and Elena?

Remember, the twins are very young. They had no problem showing their power while in utero. However, have Alaric and Caroline taught them to hide their magic from the world? Do they even know how to use their powers, or was some sort of binding spell used to protect them until they are older?

Even more clues giving credit to the theory about Damon’s sacrifice come from the executive producer. According to TV Guide, Julie Plec said The Vampire Diaries Season 7 finale would give closure to some characters. However, don’t expect “Gods & Monsters” to leave fans feeling good.

“[The closure is] violently interrupted,” Plec teased regarding the Season 7 finale of The Vampire Diaries, “by a big shift of the central characters who may never be the same.”

Switching bodies, souls, or merging characters would definitely change things for “Bamon” and “Delena” in The Vampire Diaries.

Will Damon give up being with Elena for eternity in order to save Bonnie in The Vampire Diaries? That would certainly be a sacrifice. It’s time for his character to move on by closing out Elena’s storyline. It could make it possible for Bonnie to live and not be obsessed with killing her friends. It would also open up the possibility of Damon and Bonnie having a romance of their own.

Paul Wesley also had something to say about what will happen in future episodes of The Vampire Diaries. Apparently, “two central characters” will begin a journey. The two characters Wesley is referring to must be Damon and Bonnie, known as “Bamon” by fans.

The Vampire Diaries actor teased that the two characters’ journey is just the beginning. This will be what sets up the theme for Season 8 of TVD. Wesley added that next season, things would get “really dark, really twisted and really fun.”

What do you think will happen in The Vampire Diaries Season 7 finale? What will Damon sacrifice to free Bonnie and save everyone’s lives? Will the Salvatore brother let Elena go forever, or will she somehow merge with Bonnie? What do you think of the TVD theory that the Gemini twins will use Elena to save the day?
