Victoria Beckham admits that her forte is fashion and not performing. Per the Toronto Sun, the successful British fashion designer was an honoree at the Vogue 100: A Century of Style Exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London, and she told Claudia Winkleman that she had so little confidence in herself as a performer that her managers opted to turn off her mic during Spice Girl concerts.

Beckham never came off as a powerhouse vocalist, but to hear that she was so uncomfortable performing that she lip-synced all of her performances is revealing, especially since Posh always seemed so cool, calm, and collected.

“They used to turn it off and just let the others sing. I got the last laugh – and now my mic is well and truly on, finally.

Beckham shared that unlike her bandmates Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm, Geri Halliwell, and Emma Bunton, she was more reserved and lacked their confidence. Singing and dancing were not natural to her, so her managers opted to silence her. While the other Spice Girls wore big clunky boots or sneakers, her penchant for “little Gucci dresses” and stilettos gave her an out when it came to performing the choreography. Posh Spice, the fashionista brimming with cool confidence, was anything but confident.

She also revealed to Winkleman that the “little Gucci dress” wasn’t always a little Gucci dress. The first dress she wore as a Spice Girl was a little black Miss Selfridge dress, although it didn’t take long to work Gucci into the budget.

“I was always the one that loved fashion and it was quite a result for me because the girls always used to get their clothes for free because they were crap and so there was a lot of budget for me to have my little Gucci dress.”

Singing and dancing may not have come naturally to her, but fashion did. After leaving the Spice Girls, Victoria Beckham kept the fashion aspect of her Posh persona and turned to fashion. First through a series of licensing deals for sunglasses, fragrances and jeans, and finally as a coveted fashion brand. She is so successful as a fashion designer that it is easy to forget that she used to be a member of the best-selling female group of all time.

The Victoria by Victoria Beckham fashion line is a premier luxury brand worn by celebrities and praised by fashion influencers. Her upscale apparel is chic, modern, and subdued and tends to feature exquisite tailoring and clean lines. Her first collection premiered at New York Fashion Week in 2008, and it immediately made doubters sit up and take notice.

The 20th anniversary of the Spice Girls debut album Spice is approaching, and there is talk about a reunion tour, but at least two former members are not on board. The Daily Mail reports that Victoria Beckham has never expressed an interest in a reunion that would drudge up her Posh Spice persona.

“She has other priorities and obviously, it was a bit of a problem that Victoria made it clear she wasn’t going to be part of the reunion.”

Chisholm aka Sporty Spice is also resisting a reunion tour, wanting to concentrate on her own solo career instead. With the strongest vocalist of the group bowing out, a Spice Girl reunion tour is definitely in doubt.

What is no longer in doubt is Victoria Beckham’s talent and success as a fashion designer. Now, the 42-year-old former Spice Girl turned international fashion designer no longer has to worry about her mic getting cut because it looks like she dropped the mic.
