Gwen Stefani And Blake Shelton’s Duet ‘Go Ahead And Break My Heart’ Is One Of His ‘Favorite Songs’

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are about to debut their new duet, “Go Ahead and Break My Heart,” and ahead of their upcoming performance on The Voice, the show that brought them together, Shelton spoke out about making the track.

Just a short while into his romance with Gwen Stefani, Shelton teamed up with the mother of three and created a song that he now labels as one of his favorites.

“This is one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written or recorded,” Shelton said in a press release, according to a May 4 report by Sounds Like Nashville. “It came from a time and place when Gwen and I were beginning our journey together and both experiencing a hard time letting our guards down with each other. The song couldn’t possibly be more honest. I’m honored to have written and performed this song with the great Gwen Stefani.”

Gwen Stefani and Shelton began dating at the end of last year after both of their marriages came to an end. In July 2015, Shelton and Miranda Lambert parted ways after four years of marriage. In August 2015, just weeks later, Gwen Stefani’s divorce from Gavin Rossdale, her husband of 13 years, was announced.

Although Gwen Stefani and Shelton didn’t publicly confirm their relationship until November 4, when they attended a County Music Awards after party in Nashville, Tennessee, rumors began swirling in regard to their possible romance weeks prior.

“[The duet] was their secret project for the first two months, before they brought in some other producers,” an insider revealed to Hollywood Life last month. “They really bonded and solidified their relationship over this song because they both drew material from their past relationships and spent a lot of time discussing their heartaches and what would work in the song.”

When Gwen Stefani split from Rossdale, a shocking report surfaced online, claiming the end of the couple’s marriage was the result of Rossdale’s three-year affair with their former nanny, Mindy Mann. According to an Us Weekly report in November 2015, Gwen Stefani learned of Rossdale’s alleged romance with Mann in February, but because he initially denied sleeping with Mann, she stayed in the marriage until later that year when he allegedly admitted to his wrongdoings.

Prior to working together on their duet, Shelton admitted that he and Gwen Stefani had reservations.

“We were at a point where it’s like, ‘Do we want to go there? What will people think?’ And then we finally just got to the point where it’s like, ‘You know what? I don’t give a s***,'” Shelton explained to People Magazine.

“The fact that we went there that early as we were getting to know each other, it’s just remarkable,” he continued. “As different as we are musically, we’re a fan of the same type of songs. We have these playlists that we send each other that are stuff that we loved growing up and they’re so similar, so I think it made it easy for us to collaborate.”

“Go Ahead and Break My Heart” is one of the many new songs featured on Shelton’s upcoming 12th studio album, If I’m Honest, which hits stores on May 20. Also included on the album is his latest single, “Came Here to Forget,” which is believed to be about the early stages of his romance with Gwen Stefani.
