Kardashians Make Their Way To Cuba And People Are Not Thrilled About it

The Kardashians have arrived in the nation of Cuba and have brought their TV cameras and camera crew with them to make sure their antics and adventures are all caught on tape for the reality show that is all in the family.

Keeping Up With the Kardashians takes Cuba by storm, and not everyone is welcoming of the news or the reality stars. Wonderwall shares that sisters Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian have all made the journey to the nation of Cuba.

“This week, several of the Kardashian children — Kim, Khloe, Kourtney — headed to Cuba to take in the sights, sounds and culture of the Caribbean nation. Khloe, for one, has been letting fans experience their trip via her Instagram page. She’s posted several snaps from the country, with a few including her sister and BFF Malika Haqq, who joined the trip, as did Kim’s husband Kanye West.”

However, there has been some controversy stirred up due to the famous family touching down in the nation that has experienced much hardship and turmoil. The publication shares the disappointment expressed by one particular Cuban native, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who was born in Havana. The current U.S. resident released a statement to People in regard to the reality show stars’ presence in her homeland, all for their show’s benefit.

“I know it’s cool for celebrities to go to Cuba, but the Cuban people don’t experience the glamorous Havana that is featured on social media. Far from photo shoots and fruity drinks, everyday Cubans experience a different, sad reality. Now, the Kardashians are parachuting into the island to tape their vapid TV show — Haven’t the Cuban people suffered enough?”

The Florida resident later tweeted her annoyance at the news that Kim and company would be heading to Cuba.

“How much of the #Cuban ppl’s reality will be in this ‘reality’ show?”

One picture that Khloe Kardashian has posted while on her trip to Cuba, involved the star posing under the name of dictator Fidel Castro. The image caused an immediate backlash on social media. Under the image, Khloe simply wrote the caption “Havana,” yet there were several comments left under Kardashian’s post that indicate the reason for the controversy.

“[Castro] had a lot of people killed and is a massive human rights violator but hey, viva!”

Another comment read, “the name you’re standing under is the reason why a lot of my family in Cuba is living in poverty. por favor edúcate.” However, as the publication notes, it does not appear that Khloe is attempting to get a rise from her viewers. She simply seems to be posting and enjoying her travels in a blissfully ignorant state, unaware of the trials and tribulations that the Cuban people have endured.

In an article for Bustle, writer Jamie Primeau sheds light on a poignant fact – that being that the Kardashians should show respect and be less ignorant about Cuban history in the manner they are respectful and mindful about the hardships their Armenian ancestors endured.

“Although this part of history is not talked about often, the Kardashians refuse to sweep it under the rug. The reason I mention this is because if they want others to respect and remember their country’s difficult past, they should also be mindful of others’ struggles. In posing under the name of someone who ‘systemically deprived’ Cubans of their fundamental rights, it’s certainly hurtful — even if she didn’t mean for it to be.”

To sign off and share about the fun she and her sisters had while on their vacation, Khloe wrote a heartfelt post.

“With everyday, my goal is to expand my mind. Now, it has been filled with new memories and knowledge of culture, food, traditions, daily life….It will never go back to yesterday’s dimensions! I’m so blessed to be able to appreciate another’s culture. God is GREAT! Thank you for my opportunities.”
