‘WWE NXT’ Results: Eric Young Debuts Against NXT Champion Samoa Joe

WWE NXT is going through a “new era” of its own, just like the WWE main roster. Eric Young debuted this week against new NXT Champion Samoa Joe, and it is widely known that Samoa Joe will defend the NXT Championship against Finn Balor at NXT TakeOver in June. If the WWE’s new generation depends on talent being pulled from NXT, then that means NXT has to pull new talent of its own. Enter Eric Young.

Austin Aries reminds everyone that he’s a major talent as he faces Tye Dillinger, and The Rock’s cousin Nia Jax takes on fellow multi-generational competitor Tessa Blanchard. Zack Ryder continues his role as one half of the Hype Bros against former NXT Tag Team Champions The Revival. No Way Jose has his second match on WWE NXT, and Eric Young debuts in a non-title match against champion Samoa Joe.

NOTE: The following contains the full results for the episode of WWE NXT that first aired on the WWE Network on May 4.

WWE NXT results

The matches and segments for this episode of WWE NXT were taped on April 28 at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida.

  • The show started with NXT Champion Samoa Joe’s first time at Full Sail University with the title. His in-ring promo was interrupted by Eric Young. He informed Samoe Joe that he collected titles. Samoa Joe did not act impressed.
  • Nia Jax defeated Tessa Blanchard in a rather quick match.
  • Austin Aries defeated “Perfect 10” Tye Dillinger in a match that felt competitive, even if it lasted less than 5 minutes. While he doesn’t win many of them, NXT has been booking Dillinger up against big names recently, like Aries and Shinsuke Nakamura.

  • The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) defeated the Hype Bros (Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley) rather decisively. This was in response to The Revival attacking the Hype Bros after their match on last week’s episode of NXT. They are after a second reign as NXT Tag Team Champions.
  • Alex Riley was interviewed backstage about his match next week with Shinsuke Nakamura.
  • No Way Jose defeated newcomer Noah Kekoa, much to the delight of the NXT Universe.
  • Austin Aries is interviewed backstage and talks about flying under the radar and eventually reaching the top in NXT.
  • A vignette airs to notify of Finn Balor’s return to WWE NXT next week.
  • NXT Champion Samoa Joe made Eric Young tap out using the Coquina Clutch in a match that highlighted what both men are capable of doing in the ring. “EY” has a promising future in NXT, even if he didn’t upset the champion in his debut. Joe held the submission for a while after the match, just “to send a message” to the NXT locker room.

We know that Finn Balor returns to NXT next week, and that Alex Riley has a match against Shinsuke Nakamura. NXT spoilers are available for the next two weeks’ worth of tapings.
