Cameron Diaz Spills The Beans About Her Marriage To Benji Madden On ‘Ellen’: ‘I Couldn’t Do It Without My Husband’

Cameron Diaz opened up about her marriage to Benji Madden when she sat down for an interview with Ellen DeGeneres during Thursday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Cameron said that she feels her marriage to the Good Charlotte rocker will help her live a longer, healthier life.

“I do think that marriage, when you can grow with someone, it’s very important,” the 43-year-old actress told Ellen.

Cameron Diaz got married to Benji Madden on January, 2015, after 8 months of dating. After a little over a year of being married, Diaz says that her favorite thing about being married is how she learned so much about herself. Diaz admitted, though, that it’s a double-edged sword.

“Someone asked me, ‘What’s your favorite thing about being married?’ and I said, ‘I just learned so much about myself. I didn’t know these things. I would have never known them if I didn’t have my husband to help me,’ ” Cameron said. “And they said, ‘What’s the worst thing about being married?’ It’s like, ‘Well, I learned all these things about myself that I wish I didn’t know. And I wouldn’t have learned them if I didn’t get married.’ So it’s like this double-edged sword.”

Hearing Cameron Diaz gushing over her husband is an absolute delight, and you’d be surprised to know that Benji is just as passionate about expressing his affection for his wife even on social media. Eight months ago, he took to Instagram to write Diaz a romantic birthday greeting along with an image showing himself and Cameron cuddling up for the camera.

While she admits that her marriage had led her to learn unexpected truths about herself, Cameron is still very grateful for the experience, also adding that she couldn’t have come to those realizations without her husband.

“I’m just so grateful for it because I couldn’t do it without my husband, and I couldn’t do it with anybody else except him,” she said.

When a fan asked Diaz if she had any pet names for her husband, the Longevity Book author said that she calls her husband a lot of names.

“I call him a lot of names,” she said. ” ‘Muh-buh’ You know how things start ‘baby’ then to ‘bae’ then it goes to ‘buh’? Soon I’m just going to go ‘uh’ and he’s going to know I’m talking to him.”

Cameron and Benji had a whirlwind eight-month relationship back when they were just dating. The circumstances of how they first met is also nothing short of romantic.

She talked at length about that meeting during her interview with Marie Claire.

“The first thing I said when I first met my husband was, ‘He’s hot.’ How come I didn’t know this before? We had never been in the same circle … You know, nothing matters now that I have my husband. Like, I don’t even remember any of that.” she said.

“All of that is like, that’s the thing, that’s how I know he’s my husband … No one compares. Everything else just like washes and slips away. You realise like, ‘Oh this is like the real thing is. This is what real love is. This is what real commitment and devotion is. This is the person you build your life with.” Diaz added.
