Gwen Stefani Calls Blake Shelton A ‘Facelift’ During ‘Carpool Karaoke,’ Talks ‘Hollaback Girl’ Meaning With George Clooney And Julia Roberts [Video]

Gwen Stefani joined The Late Late Show host James Corden for the latest installment of “Carpool Karaoke,” and they invited two very special guests along for the ride. Fans of Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s ongoing love story will be disappointed to learn that Blake was not one of the guests, but the backseat of James’ vehicle certainly wasn’t lacking star power. After learning that he needed four people in the car to use an HOV lane, James asked Academy Award winners George Clooney and Julia Roberts to hop in.

Gwen Reveals her Best Beauty Secret

Gwen Stefani and her famous friends didn’t sing any Blake Shelton songs during their carpool karaoke session, but Gwen did mention her boyfriend after she and James Corden rocked out to No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak.” James flattered 46-year-old Gwen by calling her “ageless,” and he said that his wife was dying to know her beauty regime. However, Gwen Stefani didn’t have any magic lotions or potions to recommend. As Hollywood Life reports, she told James Corden that falling in love with Blake Shelton and writing music about her feelings for him is her only anti-aging secret.

“What happened was my life blew up,” Gwen said of her divorce from Gavin Rossdale.

“I kind of started falling in love and then I wrote a whole record about that, so that is what the facelift is.”

“That’s what I’ll tell my wife,” James responded. “If You meet a country singer who happens to be an absolute hunk, you’ll go back in time.”

Gwen Makes a Penis Joke

Before they were joined by George Clooney and Julia Roberts, James Corden challenged Gwen Stefani to a fun game: He asked the singer to act out a few emojis, including the clapping hands, red lady in a dress dancing, angry face, sideways kiss, and eggplant. When they got to that last one, Gwen asked James to explain what the eggplant means. He informed Gwen that the purple vegetable is a phallic symbol, but he prefers to refer to the male sex organ as “the truth” because “the truth hurts.” Gwen Stefani responded by turning the title of her new album into another penis joke.

“Do you know the name of my record?” she asked. When James responded in the negative, giggly Gwen told him the title: This Is What the Truth Feels Like.

Clearly, Blake Shelton’s sense of humor is rubbing off on Gwen Stefani.

Gwen Talks “Hollaback Girl” Meaning

In addition to “Don’t Speak,” Gwen and James sang “The Sweet Escape,” “Used to Love You,” and “Rich Girl.” After George Clooney and Julia Roberts climbed into James’ backseat, the fierce foursome belted out Queen’s “We Are the Champions” and “Hollaback Girl.” George and Julia, who were spell-singing the word “bananas” to promote their new movie Money Monster, really got into this “Carpool Karaoke” jam.

George Clooney even shared his thoughts about what a “hollaback girl” is, but Gwen Stefani wouldn’t confirm whether his guess was right.

“The real meaning behind that song and the real inspiration behind that song, I would never say,” Gwen informed her captivated carpool audience. “All I’ll say is, I won.”

According to New York Magazine, there’s speculation that “Hollaback Girl” was Gwen Stefani’s response to Courtney Love dubbing the No Doubt frontwoman a “cheerleader” in 2004. Six years later, Courtney tried to get under Gwen’s skin again by claiming that she had engaged in an eight-month-long affair with Gwen’s ex-husband, Gavin Rossdale, back when he and Gwen were still dating. And Kurt Cobain’s ex didn’t stop there—during a 2013 interview with ABC News, Courtney Love claimed that Gavin Rossdale deserves all the credit for Gwen Stefani’s success.

“His band never did that well but he is very, very smart,” Courtney Love said. “He runs the Gwen show, that’s him.”

As The Inquisitr previously reported, Gwen Stefani didn’t decide to divorce Gavin Rossdale last year because of Courtney Love’s claims—Gwen allegedly kicked her husband of 13 years to the curb after she discovered that he was cheating on her with one of their children’s nannies. Luckily, Gwen Stefani soon found solace in the arms of fellow Voice coach Blake Shelton, who was also going through a divorce. Their romance inspired many of the songs on This Is What the Truth Feels Like, which was Gwen Stefani’s first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart. Maybe this is what Gwen was talking about when told James Corden, Julia Roberts, and George Clooney that she “won” the “Hollaback Girl” battle.
