Robert Downey Jr. Talks About Past Relationship With Sarah Jessica Parker
Robert Downey Jr. just opened up about his past relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Sex and the City actress Sarah Jessica Parker. Downey Jr., who stars in Captain America: Civil War, was a guest at The Howard Stern Show on Sirius XM on Wednesday, and the topic touched on the subject of Downey Jr.’s former relationship with Parker, according to ET Online.
“We were at a very conservative relationship concerning the fact that she was normal and I was out of my mind. I did the best I could.”
Robert and Sarah Jessica dated from 1984 up to 1991. The two, according to several reports, split because of Robert’s drug and drinking problem. In an interview in 2008, Downey Jr. said that Parker tried to help him get his act together, but it just didn’t work out.
When the two were dating, Robert was filming a movie with Kiefer Sutherland entitled 1969. The actor shared that he and Sarah Jessica “kind of” shared a home with Sutherland for a few years. That was also the time when the couple had been having trouble in their relationship, and Kiefer was there for Sarah Jessica to have a shoulder to cry on.
“He was probably staying with us for a while, and then I was having some trouble with Sarah Jessica, and he was looking after her. It was all rather incestuous back then.”
“It’s more that thing, like you’re all close friends, and he was probably consoling her a bit. He didn’t steal my girl, he remained in the relationship he was in. He was a shoulder to cry on. Better him than someone stranger.”
Despite being exes, Robert Downey Jr. and Sarah Jessica Parker had found closure. Last year, Robert went on a trip to New York to make peace with his ex. In an interview with Howard Stern in 2015, as reported by Daily Mail.
“This trip to New York, instead of doing what’s required of me, I actually want to take care of some personal business. I want to check in with someone I shared a big part of my life with and say ‘Hi.'”
And so Downey Jr. visited Sarah Jessica, and the two, together with Sarah’s friend, went out for a friendly chat over dinner. During that meet-up, Robert Downey Jr. said that he was able to say everything that he needed to say to his ex, and he had found closure.
In addition to the topic of Sarah Jessica Parker, there was also another woman in Downey Jr.’s life that was brought up — his Iron Man co-star and onscreen love interest, Gwyneth Paltrow.
Robert said that his wife, Susan Levin, is cool with his onscreen romance and make-out sessions with Paltrow, as the two women are good friends. In fact, Downey Jr. said that Paltrow is his “free pass.”

Robert Downey Jr. said that his wife does not get jealous of his onscreen partner, and he is not the kind to go online looking up his exes.
