Tony Awards 2016: ‘Hamilton’ Breaks Record With Most Nominations, See Complete List

The nominations for the 70th annual Tony Awards were announced on Tuesday night, and it appears as though Hamilton dominated with 16 nods, including Best Musical, setting a new record for the most nominations in a year.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator and star of Hamilton, received three nominations himself and said, “It’s unbelievable — it’s absolutely humbling and incredible.” Miranda has already nabbed a Pulitzer Prize for his work on the hip-hop musical about America’s first Treasury secretary, the New York Times reports.

“When I had the idea, I did say to myself, ‘I can’t believe no one’s done this yet,’ because it felt to me like a good idea — Hamilton’s life was uniquely suited to the things that are my strengths: hip-hop and musical-theater storytelling,” Miranda said following the announcement.
