Selena Gomez Gives Tour Money To Lupus: Kissing Justin Bieber Photo Wins Most-Liked Instagram, Bumps Kendall Jenner

Selena Gomez was soaring in her career when she suddenly canceled part of her Stars Dance Tour in 2013. The reason: She learned that she had lupus. As a result, Gomez went through chemotherapy treatment.

Following her challenges with the autoimmune disease, Selena now is at a point in her life where she’s set to embark on a new tour, called, appropriately enough, the Revival Tour. But she hasn’t forgotten what she went through with lupus. As a result, Gomez plans to donate proceeds from every ticket sold to the Alliance for Lupus Research (ALR), reported Billboard.

A national voluntary health group focused on discovering improved treatments as well as preventing lupus, ALR was chosen due to its mission, explained the 23-year-old singer’s representative.

Now, with the Revival Tour set to start Friday in Las Vegas, Selena is eager to return to the stage and focus on health and happiness. She’s been sharing sneak peeks of her tour on Instagram.

“This show is so centered around me, and I mean that in a way of confidence, of strength,” she emphasized. “It has a beautiful feel to it, but it is about me, so if I wanted to come in one day and say I want to change [a song in the show] or add this, I can do that.”

Consequently, the Revival Tour marks a milestone in giving Gomez the power to make changes that she wants.

“That’s the first time I’ve ever really been able to do that in my life. And I feel, I feel great about it,” she declared.

As for what the singer wants the audience to see? Selena revealed that she has a message that she’s determined to express through her voice.

“There’s so much I want to prove to myself for this tour and it’s just based on me, it’s based on my voice, it’s based on what I say to my crowd. That’s all I really want.”

To choose her songs, the Revival Tour singer wanted to honor her fans while staying tuned into those who had never attended a concert before. That gave her what she describes as a “clear vision” for her tour setlist.

“Seventy percent of my audience are the people that I’ve had with me from the beginning, but I know that a big portion of [the crowd] will be people who’ve never been to one of my concerts before, so I obviously kept that in mind,” Selena pointed out.

The Revival Tour set consists primarily of new songs, including “Come and Get It” in a new version. But don’t think you know what’s coming, added the pop star.

“We may add in a few things as well, surprise-wise, but we’ll figure it out,” she promised.

The Revival Tour lasts through December 18, winding through North America, Asia, and Europe.

In discussing her lupus and treatment, Selena has been reluctant to discuss her disease in detail, pointed out the Daily Mail.

After disclosing that she has lupus and had gone through chemotherapy treatment because of her autoimmune disease, she did reveal how ill she had been when she canceled part of her tour in 2013.

“That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke,” explained Selena.

But it caused additional emotional pain for Gomez when speculation arose that addiction issues rather than lupus had caused her to cancel her tour. As a result, she retreated from the world.

“I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again,” admits Selena now.

However, no cure exists for lupus, according to the Mayo Clinic. Defined as a chronic inflammatory disease, lupus symptoms can be managed through a variety of treatments. Consequently, lupus symptoms can worsen in what are known as flares, then decrease or even disappear.

And now as she’s ready to embark on her Revival Tour, Gomez has received a new honor — well, sort of. A throwback photo posted by her former boyfriend Justin Bieber just dethroned Kendall Jenner for most liked photo on Instagram, pointed out E! News.

Kendall had reigned as the queen with her Queen Of Hearts hair photo dominating first place for months. But in just two months, that throwback photo soared, receiving 3,569,000 double-taps to dethrone Jenner by about 7,000.

Just before getting bumped from first place by Jelena, Kendall revealed the secret to her famous Queen Of Hearts photo. And credit goes to Jenner’s friends, reported Teen Vogue.

Kendall received more than 3.5 million likes for that photo, but it actually was taken after a bad day.

“I wasn’t in the flow. I was like, Everyone sucks,” Jenner recalled.

So Kendall decided to improve her mood by joining her sister Kylie, along with Gigi and Bella Hadid, and Hailey Baldwin in creating a heart halo around Jenner’s head. History was made — until that throwback photo was posted.
