Demi Lovato & Nicki Minaj Feud: Demi Admits Nicki Threw Some Serious ‘Shade’ At 2016 Met Gala
Could there be a feud brewing between Demi Lovato and Nicki Minaj?
According to a new report by E! News, it looks like Demi and Nicki could have some bad blood after Lovato hinted that Nicki threw some serious shade her way both during and after the two had a run-in at 2016 Met Gala on May 2.
Lovato took to Instagram on May 3 to share a snap of Minaj giving her some serious side-eye while the two walked the red carpet with designer Jeremy Scott at the prestigious fashion event in New York City this week, where Demi admitted that she felt seriously uncomfortable and will likely never return to the fashion gala.
“This picture pretty much summed up my first and probably last met,” Demi told her more than 38 million followers on Instagram, admitting in the caption that she felt “so f****** awkward” alongside the hashtag “#whatsgood,” which Nicki infamously said to Miley Cyrus following their drama at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards.
Demi Lovato’s Instagram photo caused a serious stir online, with fans speculating that Lovato was insinuating there could be drama between herself and Minaj following their run-in at the New York fashion event, to which Demi admitted Nicki Minaj’s “shade” towards her in the snap is giving her “life.”
“P.s. some of y’all need to learn how to take a joke,” Demi wrote in the photo’s caption. “I’m obviously laughing at the fact that 1. I look incredibly awkward and 2. That the shade being thrown in this picture actually gives me life.”
E! News revealed that the drama between the two really began when Nicki posted a very similar photo of herself with Demi with Moschino Creative Director Jeremy Scott on the 2016 Met Gala red carpet but opted only to tag Scott, who designed Minaj’s gown, in the photo’s caption.
According to screenshots captured by eagle-eyed Demi fans, Lovato noticed that she wasn’t tagged in Nicki’s photo and supposedly commented on the post using a laughing face emoji along with a peace sign and a thumbs up, suggesting that she found Nicki’s omission of her Instagram handle to be pretty hilarious.
Fans also screen shot another of Demi’s social media uploads on May 3, where she appeared to be alluding to Minaj’s supposed diss with a very telling selfie posted on Snapchat.
Although Demi didn’t explicitly reference Nicki in her Snapchat photo, she definitely appeared to be referring to Minaj’s Met Gala diss by posting the photo alongside the text, “When you aren’t mentioned in the post but didn’t do s*** to the person.”
While Nicki Minaj has yet to respond to Demi Lovato’s recent accusations of “shade,” social media users are speculating that the two’s recent uploads could well be the sign of a brewing feud.
“Demi has ALWAYS been a fan of Nicki. She wouldn’t have gone off unless Nicki majorly disrespected her,” Twitter user @harleqxin tweeted out, while @DemiHoliness joked, “Guess we know now that Demi will never collab with Nicki lol.”
Other fans took to Twitter to defend Nicki over her initial Instagram post that Lovato noted was “shady,” claiming that Demi was overreacting with her slew of social media responses.
“Why is Demi so upset she never got tagged? Nicki was just tagging the designers of the dress,” @NickiReigns tweeted, and @KingMinaj__ wrote on the 140-character site, “But then again Demi was a bit extra [to be honest]. She did overreact a little. All Nicki did was not mention her in an Instagram post….”
