Melissa McCarthy Talks 75-Lb Weight Loss Diet, ‘Ghostbusters’ & ‘Gilmore Girls’ Reboots: YouTube Video Slammed

Melissa McCarthy is known for having a positive attitude. But when it comes to the ongoing trash talk that’s circulating about the Ghostbusters reboot in which she stars, even McCarthy is finding it difficult to defend the direction that the film trailer has taken, pointed out Yahoo Movies.

The YouTube trailer has earned the dubious distinction of ranking among the most disliked trailers in history, primarily because of the conflict between the clip for the new Ghostbusters film and the actual premise of the reboot.

The trailer indicates that the Ghostbusters version in which Melissa stars continues the storyline of the original. In reality, however, McCarthy clarified that the movie makes it seem as if the original Ghostbusters never occurred.

“It’s a reboot not a remake,” pointed out Melissa. “I know it’s weird that they say [in the trailer] ’30 years ago,’ but in this movie, it’s like the first one didn’t happen.”

Moreover, McCarthy revealed that although her movie tells the “same classic story,” it features four heroes and goes in different direction.

“It’s a great story but it’s told totally differently. It’s four unlikely heroes, it’s in New York City, ghosts are taking over; it’s that same classic story but it’s not 30 years later… it’s not dependent on the first one.”

Directed by Paul Feig, the Ghostbusters reboot features a female cast. Thus far, the YouTube trailer has earned more than 600,000 thumbs down votes, placing it on the list of most disliked clips.

Melissa also revealed that the concern about the difference in the clip and the actual movie was discussed with Sony.

“Believe me the question was asked,” admitted McCarthy. “I think that it’s very confusing. But then everyone said we don’t care what you think.”

But the dislike of the trailer isn’t the first indication that the reboot is facing problems in being accepted by movie-goers. The protests began when Feig, known for directing films such as Bridesmaids, revealed his plan for a Ghostbusters reboot featuring women.

In response to the slams for the trailer, Feig pointed out the distinction between disliking the movie just because it was a reboot of a classic versus disliking it because it features women.

“Some of it is that people don’t want an old property touched – I’m sympathetic to that. But the ones who are hating it because it’s about women? That’s just a non-starter.”

In addition to the Ghostbusters reboot, McCarthy is participating in a Netflix Gilmore Girls revival. And when it comes to that project, Melissa is enthusiastic, reported EW.

“They’re making four new movies of the Gilmore Girls, which is a show that was near and dear to my heart for four years,” McCarthy revealed. “I am so excited! They’re going to be amazing.”

While McCarthy is eager to talk about Ghostbusters and Gilmore Girls, she’s also happily flaunting her weight loss success. Melissa has shed 75 pounds thus far and is sharing all her secrets, noted Hollywood Life.

Combining fitness and diet, McCarthy has been steadfast in her weight loss. She chose to follow a low-carbohydrate, high-protein diet for her food plan, but couldn’t resist joking about her “real” trick to shedding pounds.

“The real secret is a super-boring life. You go to bed at 7:30 [pm]. That’s the trick,” admitted Melissa.

In addition to her high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet, McCarthy boosted her weight loss with workouts, practicing martial arts in order to look realistic doing stunts as a CIA field agent in the comedy Spy, reported the Daily Mail.

“I studied martial arts for two months,” confirmed Melissa. “Turns out I like doing stunts.”

By working with a personal trainer, McCarthy gradually improved her workouts. And now that she’s shed so much weight, the actress shared that she’s stopped stressing about the number on the scale.

“I feel amazing and I finally said, ‘Oh, for God sakes, stop worrying about it’ and it may be the best thing I’ve ever done,” revealed Melissa.
