‘Jill & Jessa: Counting On’ Season Finale: Was It Life Changing?

Tonight, Jill & Jessa: Counting On aired the second part of their two-part season finale. The Duggars took to the Duggar Family Blog to promote the show, saying it was going to be a “life-changing” episode.

What exactly was life-changing remains to be seen. For now, it appears the future of Jill & Jessa: Counting On is up in the air, as they announced tonight on the Duggar Family Blog that as of this time, they do not even know if Jill & Jessa: Counting On is going to be renewed for a second season.

“Without support from fans, the show will surely die.”

Last week on Jill & Jessa: Counting On, fans were disappointed when the episode was laced with flashbacks. At least one-third of the show was old footage viewers had already seen from previous episodes of the cancelled Duggar show, 19 Kids and Counting. Unfortunately, fans will be disappointed to learn tonight’s episode featured much of the same.

The episode started with Jessa, Ben, Spurgeon, Jana, Jinger, Joy, Jeremiah, Jedidiah, Josiah, Joseph, and James arriving in Central America to Jill and Derick’s home. Jill was ecstatic to finally meet Spurgeon in person. She described him as being chubby, attentive, and a happy little guy.

Jill showed Jessa the two rooms the family would be staying in, in their house. The first had a bunk bed with an additional mattress on the floor, and the second was a very small room, barely large enough to hold a full-size mattress on the floor. Jessa described the house as being cute and cozy.

As mentioned, the final episode of the season of Jill & Jessa: Counting On contained many flashbacks. First, viewers were able to revisit when Jill and Derick first started courting after Jill flew across the world to meet Derick in person for the first time. Producers asked several of the siblings if they would travel around the world to meet a guy. Joy said she would, Jana said she wouldn’t really want to, and Jinger said she didn’t think she had to. When producers pressed her on the comment, Jinger refused to divulge any further information.

Other flashbacks on the show included Derick proposing to Jill and Jill and Derick’s wedding day. They also covered Jill announcing her pregnancy to her family and Israel’s birth. The last of the flashbacks covered Jill, Derick, and Israel’s move to Central America.

In one of the interviews about Jill’s pregnancy with Israel, Derick felt it necessary to point out they became pregnant after they were married. Jill went on to say that people do not know how to calculate due dates. It sounds like Duggar naysayers may have spread rumors that Jill and Derick had sex before they were married, which goes against everything they believe and proactively preach.

While the family was visiting in Central America, they traveled to an orphanage that held around 70 children. Jill joked as she walked in the door that she would be carrying kids out with her, and Jessa stated she wished she could scoop them all up and take them with her. Both Jill and Jessa have publicly shared they wish to adopt. Jill also shared that Derick’s mother was adopted and that has influenced their decision to adopt.

When Jill and Jessa were asked who they thought would be pregnant first, they both said they did not know. Jessa said she thought they would be pregnant at the same time but didn’t know who would deliver first. Jill shared that she was not pregnant as of the time of the interview.

When it was time for the Duggars and Seewalds to say goodbye to Jill, Derick and Israel, Jessa told Jill she didn’t know when she would see her next. She talked briefly about coming back but then went on to say it wouldn’t be long before Jill returned. Jill confirmed they would be returning to Arkansas in about five months. Whether or not they are returning to visit or returning for good remains to be seen.

For now, the future of Jill & Jessa: Counting On is up in the air. The family has requested fans flood social media with #BringtheDuggarsBack in an attempt to get TLC to renew Jill & Jessa: Counting On for a second season.
