2016 Met Gala Fashion: The Worst & Most Bizarre Red Carpet Looks


The 2016 Met Gala, also known as the Costume Institute Gala, brought out some of the biggest stars and some of the most bizarre fashion on the planet to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City on May 1.

While some celebrities opted for safer ensembles, these celebrities thought outside the box for the biggest event on the fashion calendar and brought out some of the most bizarre Met Gala looks in history.

Take a look at some of the most unique looks to walk the 2016 Met Gala red carpet, from Lady Gaga to Madonna to Kanye West.

Solange Knowles loves to take a fashion risk, and the 2016 Met Gala was no exception. Following her pretty bizarre space age fan gown at the 2015 event, this year Solange opted for a very fashion forward canary yellow ensemble with thigh-high pleather stockings and perspex heels.

Never one to shy away from making a fashion statement, Lady Gaga left her pants at home for her space ace metallic ensemble. Gaga’s Met look was made up of a cut-out blue corset bodysuit covered by a metallic silver jacket and what appeared to be leather underwear paired with what could be some of the hugest platforms to ever make their way down a red carpet.

Madonna continued her fashion forward red carpet streak with yet another bizarre outfit at the 2016 Met Gala. Madonna walked the New York red carpet in this Givenchy ensemble, which featured a cut-out chest covered only by lace, a bandage style bodysuit, and thigh-high leather boots. The “Human Nature” singer also flashed her butt cheeks on the red carpet after revealing her fashion choice actually had no back.

Nicki Minaj made a serious fashion statement in her low-cut, sheer black gown. Nicki’s Met Gala ensemble featured a number of straps across the body that covered a completely sheer floor-length skirt, as well as elbow high sheer gloves.

Kerry Washington had fans doing a double take with her Met Gala red carpet getup. The fashion forward Scandal star appeared to be channeling her inner Morticia Addams with her Met Gala look, which featured almost shoulder-high lace gloves, a plunging embellished black gown, and some serious eye makeup.

Kanye West, who coordinated in silver with wife Kim Kardashian, appeared to forget that the Met Gala is one of the most formal events in the fashion calendar. Rather than dressing things up in a tuxedo, West instead opted to attend the Met event in ripped blue jeans and a bedazzled denim jacket. Kanye also stayed with his blue theme with some interesting blue contact lenses.

While Selena Gomez is usually the Queen of the best dressed list, it was her choice of shoe for the 2016 Met Gala red carpet that left fans scratching their heads. Gomez’s look appeared to be formed of a black leather crop top placed over a long black and white print dress, which she then teamed with chunky black boots.

Former Black Eyed Peas rapper Will.i.am took things to a whole new level with his unique Met Gala accessory – a black visor. The musician hit the New York red carpet in a pretty bizarre bowler hat with a built-in visor alongside his all-black ensemble with white flowers making covering both sleeves.
