Self-Driving Car Sex: Experts Say It Will Become A Deadly Trend

Self-driving cars are quickly coming soon, and experts recently opened up about several concerns they have about driving behaviors they might cause. In particular, they raised concerns about self-driving car operators going all the way on the road.

It is already illegal to text while driving, but what with self-driving cars being available in 30 U.S. cities by the end of 2016, lawmakers will soon need to pass a law against having sex while driving, experts told The Toronto Sun.

“I am predicting that, once computers are doing the driving, there will be a lot more sex in cars. That’s one of several things people will do which will inhibit their ability to respond quickly when the computer says to the human, ‘Take over.'”

Barrie Kirk, co-founder of the Canadian Automated Vehicles Center Of Excellence, explains that people generally think of self-driving cars as 100 percent self-driving — as in, they think the car’s automation will do all the work while the driver sits back and relaxes for the whole ride.

The reality is that self-driving cars — at least, the ones we will have by the end of 2016 — will once in a while call on the human being behind the wheel to deal with a road situation that the car’s computer brain just can’t handle.

True, self-driving cars will take control most of the time and will allow the “driver” to relax a lot more easily while getting to a destination.

On some drives, in fact, the car may indeed be able to take care of all the navigation by itself.

Anything could happen at any time, though, and there is no margin for error in this case. Drivers must be ready to take over at all times.

And that is what worries the experts. Many videos around the web show “self-driving” car test operators doing things behind the wheel, like eating a sandwich or brushing their teeth, that could make them unable to take over driving at a second’s notice.

Although no one has been caught on film having sex in one of the cars, experts realize the activity is a favorite among the American adult public, and especially once the cars are available to a mass audience, road penetration will be something that happens.

The Toronto Sun piece notes that Canadian authorities are taking the lead in making sure all buyers of self-driving cars are clear that they should always remain attentive behind the wheel, even if they do not think they will be taking over the controls anytime soon. But those in the know are not confident that everyone, or even most people, will abide by such warnings when an activity as widely alluring as sex is the alternative.

Authorities are still working out how they can better educate the public about the seriousness of leaving a self-driving car’s automation unsupervised.

The good news is that completely self-driving cars are only a few years away, according to notes The Toronto Sun found in a string of emails from Tesla Motors, a manufacturer of partially self-driving cars.

The self-driving vehicles Google has been working on for years now, for example, is just a few years down the road.

“I have a 12-year-old son,” Chris Urman, director of Google’s self-driving car division, toldFortune last October.

“My goal is for him not to need a driver’s license [when he’s 16].”

Presumably, passengers will be able to have road sex to their heart’s content once fully self-driving cars are actually a thing. For now, though, keep your eyes on the road.
