Rachel Roy: Will She Attend The Met Gala Amid Book Launch, ‘Lemonade’ Scandal?

The guest list for the 2016 Met Gala has not been revealed like it usually has by now. Some have been wondering if Rachel Roy will attend since Beyoncé and Jay Z are expected to be there. After all, it’s fashion’s biggest night, and Roy is a well-known fashion designer and stylist.

Vogue’s contributing editor Andre Leon Talley confirmed the news during an interview with the Skimm.

“Unfortunately the person I most wanted to see is not coming because she’s on tour. It’s Rihanna…But I do look forward to Beyoncé.”

Talley didn’t exactly confirm anyone else on the guest list, but it’s like that the couple will avoid an awkward run-in with Rachel Roy, who has been accused of being “Becky with the good hair.” She was also rumored to have been the cause of Jay Z and Solange’s elevator fight after the 2014 Met Gala, but she was not present the following year. It was Rita Ora who stirred trouble when she was photographed hugging Jay Z from behind while he talked to Diddy.

Last week, Roy addressed the rumors that she was the “Becky” Beyoncé calls out on the track “Sorry.” In a statement released to People, she denies having an affair with Jay Z. Roy also claims that her infamous Instagram post was “misunderstood” and was only made out of jest.

“I want to put the speculation and rumors to rest. My Instagram post was meant to be fun and lighthearted. It was misunderstood as something other than that. There is no validity to the idea that the song references me personally. There is no truth to the rumors.”

She went on to say that her post was taken the wrong way by Beyoncé’s fans and that both she and her daughters have become the victims of cyber bullying.

“As a mother — and I know many mothers would agree — I feel that bullying in any form is harmful and unacceptable. I would hope that the media sees the real issue here — the issue of cyber bullying — and how it should not be tolerated by anyone.”

But while Roy denies that she’s “Becky,” an insider recently told Radar Online that Beyoncé has called her that name for years.

“Becky has actually been a nickname that Beyonce has called Rachel for years. It isn’t just a generic name for a girl.”

The reason why she calls the fashion designer “Becky” is “so she never has to say Rachel’s name.” It all stems back to that night at the 2014 Met Gala when Radar’s source revealed what really happened that night between Solange and Jay Z. According to the insider, Roy allegedly came up to Beyoncé’s group and said hello to the hip-hop mogul. Beyoncé didn’t say anything to her, but she didn’t do anything to make Roy leave.

Solange was angry at both Beyoncé and Jay Z for allowing the celebrity stylist to stick around. She was also mad that Bey allowed Roy to hit on her man right in front of her. The source also revealed that Solange yelled at her sister before attacking her husband in the elevator.

“Rachel just couldn’t leave them alone. Later in the night she came up to Beyonce and Jay again and a photographer wanted to take a picture. Beyonce just said yes because if she didn’t it would cause a scene. Solange completely lost her temper at that point.

“She was yelling at Beyonce telling her that Rachel was going to use that picture and that she needed to put her foot down. So when they were in the elevator first Solange was screaming at Bey then she attacked Jay.”

Last week, Roy canceled a scheduled New York appearance due to a “personal emergency” amid the speculation that she’s “Becky.” When she was spotted in NYC, paparazzi hounded her and asked if she was “Becky with the good hair” or if she ever had an affair with Jay Z.

Amid the Lemonade scandal, Roy has kept quiet on social media. She is also trying to promote her new book, Design Your Life, which is both a memoir and style guide. Roy sat down for an interview with the News Tribune to strictly talk about her book and to offer some style tips for the modern working woman.

“A blazer has always been my go-to to feel pulled together and intelligent,” she said.

As for the ideal outfit for running errands, Roy suggested, “A midi dress over tight leggings (I like leather). Add a biker jacket or blazer on top. Classic but with a twist and just as comfy as your yoga pants.”
