Rumored Apple iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus Models To Get Enhanced Battery Capacity In 2016: Report

With the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and the iPhone SE launches under its belt, Apple is already readying its next generation iPhone — the rumored iPhone 7 — for a launch sometime this year. While not much is known about the design aspects of the iPhone 7, what is known is the possibility of Apple giving up on the ubiquitous 3.5mm audio port on the next generation iPhone. In a new development, we have reports coming in about the possibility of the phone also getting a larger capacity battery.

The source of the report is an article that appeared on Apple centric blog — 9To5Mac — which in turn cites a post from Chinese social media website Weibo as its source. According to the report, the new versions of the iPhone set to release later this year will come with larger batteries. The post said that the rumored iPhone 7 would get a 1,735 mAH battery (compared to 1,715 mAH on the existing model), while the iPhone 7 Plus is likely to sport a 2,810 mAH battery (compared to the 2,750 mAH battery on the iPhone 6s Plus). While this is only slightly bigger than the existing battery capacities, experts believe Apple would also optimize iOS to make better use of the increased battery capacity — thereby promising a longer battery life. All said, we would like to remind you that the iPhone 6S and the 6S Plus came with lesser battery capacity compared to their predecessors — mainly due to the space taken up by the Taptic Engine, which powers the 3D Touch functionality that is featured on the current generation iPhone 6S models.

Meanwhile, like we mentioned earlier, there is still no word on how the new iPhone models would look. There were reports in late 2015 about the iPhone 7 getting a radical redesign. However, several others are of the opinion that Apple might play it safe and would continue to maintain the current look — albeit with slight changes here and there, including redesigned antennas. Both the iPhone variants are also likely to be slimmer and lighter than the existing devices. Others opine that a major design change would only appear when the rumored iPhone 7S appears in the year 2017 — long way to go! There are also some others who believe that Apple might “go back” and revisit the design language seen on the iPhone 5S and the current generation model, the iPhone SE.

Now, before you get all gung-ho about getting the new iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus, since they have larger battery capacities, let us remind you that all this remains complete speculation at this point. These claims are all on the basis of an uncorroborated social media post and for the same reason, should be taken with the traditional pinch of salt.

As for Apple, all doesn’t seem well for the company, which has for the first time in almost a decade reported less than expected earnings. After the company announced its performance data for the first quarter of 2016, its shares slid. In fact, even today, Apple stocks were trading down 0.5 percent in morning trade Monday. If the saga continues, it would go on to suffer the company’s longest losing streak in 18 years. The following is according to a MarketWatch report.

“Apple stocks are headed for an eighth-straight loss, and 11th loss in 12 sessions, since it closed at a four-month high of $112.10 on April 14. An eighth-straight loss would be the longest such stretch since the eight-day losing streak ending July 28, 1998. If the stock turns higher by the end of the day, the seven-day loss streak would be the longest since Feb. 21, 2013.”

Are you awaiting the launch of the new iPhone models that would hit the shelves later this year?
