Helen Mirren’s Prince Tribute At WHCD Includes Purple Dress, Tattoo

Helen Mirren honored the late Prince at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 30. According to Mail Online, Dame Mirren wore a Purple Rain-inspired lace gown that was floor-length and the most perfect shade of plum. Mirren’s Prince tribute didn’t end there, however. The 70-year-old actress showed off a Love Symbol tattoo (also in purple, naturally) on her collarbone.

“I admire great artists and he was a great artist. I’d love to say that Prince himself did it in 1988 or something, instead of me in the bathroom this morning,” Mirren told the Washington Post. Mirren also had a lavender polish on her perfectly manicured nails to really complete the look.

Helen Mirren’s Prince tribute did not go unnoticed, either. Aside from the fact that she looked lovely, everyone at the dinner wanted to chat with her — or so it seemed.

“Lord knows, she didn’t have to make such an effort to get attention. From the time she arrived on the WHCD party scene Friday night, the Oscar winner was perhaps the most sought-after A-lister in town. At the dinner itself, she had a prime table with both Joe Biden and John Kerry. I mean, she is Dame Helen Freakin Mirren,” says Emily Yahr of the Washington Post.

Helen Mirren and her husband, film director Taylor Hackford, walked together and posed for photos on the red carpet, both smiling and looking as though they were enjoying their time.

Helen Mirren isn’t afraid to make a statement, but she always does so in a tasteful manner. We lost one of the best entertainers of all time on April 21, and Mirren’s tribute showed the incredible impact that he had on the world, including his fellow stars.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Prince was found dead inside an elevator at his home in Minnesota. Several news outlets reported that he had been treated for a drug overdose just days before his tragic death. Although an autopsy has been completed and suicide has been ruled out, toxicology reports are still pending and could reveal a very sad truth for this brilliant man.

According to TMZ, Prince was not doing well following the dangerous ordeal.

“Multiple sources in Moline tell us, Prince was rushed to a hospital and doctors gave him a ‘save shot‘ … typically administered to counteract the effects of an opiate. Our sources further say doctors advised Prince to stay in the hospital for 24 hours. His people demanded a private room, and when they were told that wasn’t possible … Prince and co. decided to bail. The singer was released [three] hours after arriving and flew home. We’re told when Prince left he ‘was not doing well.’ “

After his death, thousands of people took to social media to post tributes. It’s clear that so many people loved Prince and appreciated his talent. His memory will live on in the lives of millions of people forever.

Helen Mirren, of course, paid tribute in her own unique way. Did you like Dame Helen Mirren’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner gown? Do you think that her tribute was classy? What about the tattoo on her collarbone?
