‘General Hospital’ Rules Daytime Emmy Awards, Tyler Christopher, Bryan Craig Among Winners

Despite the fact that the 43rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards was not shown live on television or streamed online, fans of General Hospital are still happy that their favorite soap hit it big on Sunday night. The ABC daytime drama won a total of nine awards, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Drama Series Directing Team.

The ceremony, which was held at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites in Los Angeles, brought out the best of the best in daytime TV. General Hospital not only dominated Sunday night with five wins, but the show also brought an additional four awards on Friday night at the Creative Arts ceremony in the categories of Outstanding Casting, Outstanding Technical Team, Outstanding Multiple Camera Editing, and Outstanding Costume Design. On Air On Soaps had the scoop on some of the major wins last night.

In addition to the golden prize of Outstanding Drama Series at the Daytime Emmy Awards, the Best Drama Directing Team award wasn’t too shabby either. This was the ninth time the directing team of General Hospital nabbed that win. The individual awards for the amazing actors and actresses of daytime drama may have been even sweeter and even a little surprising.

It was almost expected that Anthony Geary (Luke) would pull off a win for Best Actor, but it was his on-screen ex-wife’s son who won this time. His co-star Tyler Christopher (Nicolas) grabbed his first-ever Emmy for his role as the Cassadine prince who has struggled between his dark self and his good side.

Bryan Craig (Morgan) also won his first award for Best Younger Actor. It is not totally surprising that Craig nabbed this one, as his portrayal of a newly diagnosed bipolar patient on General Hospital has been on point and was an emotional ride for the actor.

It is always bittersweet when two actors on the same drama series are nominated in the same category and compete against each other. That just shows there is a ton of talent coming from that one show. In the category for Best Supporting Actor, General Hospital stars Dominic Zamprogna and Sean Blakemore were both nominated. However, it was Blakemore who won over his GH co-star. Both men deserve a nod for providing fans with many hours of dramatic moments thanks to their talents of making their characters so lovable.

Many General Hospital fans were disappointed that Brooklyn Silzer (Emma) didn’t win in the Outstanding Younger Actress category. She has played the role of Emma Drake with so much emotion and sweetness that she was certainly a favorite to win. While that award went to True O’Brien of Days of Our Lives, many hearts have melted over the years thanks to Brooklyn’s talents as an actress.

Thanks to social media and others such as Michael Fairman of On Air Soaps, daytime TV fans got to see all of the actors, actresses, talk show and game show hosts, and behind-the-scenes people looking amazing. Hollywood Life posted many red carpet photos as well.

Everyone got to see General Hospital actors Brooklyn Silzer (Emma) and Nicolas Bechtel (Spencer) hang out together on the red carpet. Brooklyn was adorable in a white dress with a flowery design on the front. Her TV dad, Jason Thompson (ex-Patrick), was on hand to support her as well. He was handsome as always. The former on-screen dad-daughter duo may not be together anymore on the soap, but they are still very close.

Other General Hospital stars were seen all decked out in their best duds. The beautiful Teresa Castillo (Sabrina) looked quite stunning in a blue strapless dress complete with a matching bold necklace. Michelle Stafford (Nina) showed some skin by wearing a unique bright red dress that looked fabulous on her. The classic style of Finola Hughes (Anna) was seen on the red carpet when she wore a black and white dress, while Kelly Monaco was decked out in black lace.

There were also sightings of a few of those handsome men of General Hospital, including Anthony Geary, Tristan Rogers, and Ian Buchanan, who were all seen in photos sent out on social media.

Congratulations not only go out to General Hospital but also to all of the winners who make daytime TV so much fun to watch.
