Stephen Curry Injury Update: Will Golden State Warriors Get Curry Back For Games 2 And 3?

Stephen Curry injury updates came in during and after the Golden State Warriors game on May 1. Curry’s injury is reportedly responding well to the rehab plan that team doctors have him on, possibly shortening the time he will miss during the 2016 NBA Playoffs. A report from the Oregonian states that Curry has a “slim” chance to return for Game 2 in a second-round series against the Portland Trail Blazers. His potential appearance in Game 3 might be another story, though.

An updated Stephen Curry injury report from ESPN.com states the chances he could return for Game 3 are now “pretty good.” That’s great news for Warriors fans, even though the team didn’t seem to need Curry to easily defeat the Blazers in Game 1 of the second-round series. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Game 2 is Tuesday, May 3, in California and Game 3 is Saturday, May 7, in Portland.

While it’s a scant two days before Curry would have to suit up for Game 2, he has until next weekend for his injury to heal up enough for serious movement in Game 3. Curry is trying to battle back from a sprained MCL that he suffered in Game 4 of a first-round playoff series with the Houston Rockets. Even with the Curry injury, the Warriors had very little trouble beating the Rockets. That same scenario played out Sunday afternoon when the Warriors hosted the Blazers.

Warriors coach and NBA Coach of the Year Steve Kerr weighed in on Stephen Curry’s injury and how close he feels that the reigning MVP may be to returning to the court. Kerr first stated that the chances of Curry playing in Game 2 were “pretty slim,” before talking about Curry’s status for Game 3.

“It just depends how his week goes. We’ll just monitor him and see how it goes and hopefully get him back at some point. It’s nice to have that long break between 2 and 3.”

Curry answered a number of questions from ESPN sideline reporter Lisa Salters during the Game 1 blowout of the Blazers. Most of them were about his injury status, which wasn’t a surprise with how well the Warriors played with him on the court during the 2015-16 NBA season.

“I’m doing a lot more rehab-wise, trying to test my body out a little bit. I’m looking forward to getting back on the court, maybe a practice setting and see how it feels. I’m gotten pretty much my full range of motion back. It’s still painful but for the most part I can get on my feet and try to do basketball activities that will get me back into the playoff atmosphere. [sic]”

If Stephen Curry misses Game 2 and the Golden State Warriors easily beat the Portland Trail Blazers again, it’s definitely possible that the front office and coaching staff may decide to proceed with more caution. Allowing the baby-faced assassin to sit out Game 3 would certainly help the MCL get some more rest before Curry resumes playing in live action.

The Portland Trail Blazers blew an opportunity to steal two games from the Golden State Warriors due to the Stephen Curry injury. Now, the team appears to have just one more opportunity to do so before Curry likely appears in Game 3 on Saturday, May 7. A noteworthy fact is that the Blazers did fall behind the Los Angeles Clippers 2-0 in the first-round series before winning the next four games. Can they play well enough to beat Klay Thompson, let alone Stephen Curry, in Game 2 on May 3?
