The possibility of VP Joe Biden being dumped by the Obama reelection team in favor of Hillary Clinton was apparently more than just a rumor put out by bored or cynical Beltway journalists, according to author Ed Klein. She actually turned down the job a few weeks ago because it was a “lose lose proposition.”

Klein made this claim on CNBC (see clip below via The Daily Caller).

Ed Klein, who wrote the best seller about Barack Obama called The Amateur, said on CNBC that, according to his sources on the Clinton team, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with Obama senor adviser Valerie Jarrett a few weeks ago after the White House “put out feelers” to see if she was willing to replace Biden. At that time, Klein maintains, Clinton told Jarrett that she wasn’t interested in the number two slot.

This is how Ed Klein described Hillary Clinton’s reasoning about the vice presidency:

“She felt that if she were on the ticket with Obama and he lost, she would be tarred as a loser when she tried to run in 2016. On the other hand, if she was on the ticket and he won, and he continued his far left-wing socialistic policies, she’d have to defend those policies when she ran in 2016.”

It’s interesting that the mainstream media just discovered that Joe Biden is a gaffe machine. For Republican VP picks, Paul Ryan or otherwise, the media immediately goes into the attack mode. For Democrats like Biden in 2008 (or the now disgraced Sen. John Edwards in 2004), they tend to get a pass.

It’s worth noting too that Biden, the former senator from Delaware, is yet another politician that never held a real job in his entire life. His main claim to fame was backstabbing Republican judicial nominees during confirmation hearings when he was chair of the US Senate Judiciary Committee.

For now, Joe Biden is apparently staying on as Barack Obama’s running mate, although Klein indicated that there is a possibility that Clinton could change her mind.
