The Original ‘Ghostbusters’ Being Released In Theaters Again This Summer

On July 15, the remake or reboot of Ghostbusters is going to land in theaters with an all-female team looking to take down the paranormal in New York City. Many are looking forward to the movie to see how it lives up the original, but if they need a refresher, one is coming. It has now been revealed that the original Ghostbusters from 1984 is going to return to theaters this summer on a very limited basis, but it’s a great opportunity to see a classic on the big screen.

The original Ghostbusters is and will always be considered a classic film, and it’s easy to see why that is. Not only is it great, but the star power in it is out of this world. The team itself consisted of Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, and the late Harold Ramis. Throw Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts, and Rick Moranis on top of that and you have a cast that is hard to beat.

Those that may be too young to have done so, or simply never got the chance to see the original Ghostbusters in theaters, will have the opportunity this summer.

Collider is reporting that for a very limited engagement, the original Ghostbusters is heading back to theaters thanks to Fathom Events and BBQ Films.

Fathom Events is going to release the 1984 Ghostbusters on June 8 and June 12. It’s not going to be across the entire country, as it will be released in just 750 participating theaters, and you can make sure you get a hold of tickets by going to the Fathom Events page for it.

Make sure to check and see if it is playing in a theater near you, as tickets will become available on May 6.

As for BBQ Films, things are going to be taken to an entirely different level with the re-release of Ghostbusters. There will be three days of fun with the movie as it will have an interactive and huge experience on June 8, 9, and 10.

For this one, you’ll have to head to Villain in Brooklyn, but if you do, you’re going to get a lot more than just a showing of the movie.

There are two different packages available for the viewing of Ghostbusters, and it includes a tour of Villain which will be made into “Ghostbusters headquarters.” There is going to be ghost-training, adult beverages, unique gifts, and even some proton packs.

The “New Recruit” package ranges from $42 to 47 and the “Friends of Slimer” package ranges from $72-77. Obviously, you’ll get more with the Slimer package which ends up being the commemorative gifts and adult ecto-beverages.

It will be great to see the original film on the big screen, but the world is also preparing for the remake of Ghostsbusters this summer as well. The new team is made up of Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, Kristen Wiig, and Kate McKinnon.

They will be joined by Andy Garcia, Chris Hemsworth, and a host of others. For a little bit of nostalgia, many of those from the original film are returning in cameo roles, so fans only going to see the remake will see Murray, Aykroyd, Weaver, and Hudson.

There has been a lot of skepticism to the remake of Ghostbusters, but the release of the trailer and some more information on it has caused a lot of that to go away. Maybe releasing the original film back into theaters will allow fans to appreciate both of them and not try to compare one to the other. While similar in many ways, they’re going to be their own films and should be treated as such.
