‘Frozen 2’ Plot, Spoilers: Olaf’s Love Interest Worries Josh Gad, Sequel To Focus On Social Issues

When Disney confirmed that Frozen 2 is currently in the works, fans of the blockbuster film started to scour the internet in search for clues on what the sequel could possibly be like. Since Frozen premiered in 2013, fans have been on the lookout for news about the highly anticipated sequel. There were also tons of fan theories circulating online, two of the most popular were Olaf (Josh Gad) having a love interest and Elsa (Idina Menzel) falling for Rise of the Guardians’ Jack Frost (Chris Pine).

In an interview with Bustle, Gad said that he has heard rumors about his character, Olaf, possibly getting a love interest in Frozen 2. He, however, explained that since the film is still in its developmental phase, the actors knew next to nothing about the story.

Josh Gad admitted that he actually felt wary of Olaf eventually falling in love in Frozen 2. As he has always been a fan of the snowman’s “youthful optimism and naivety,” he cannot help but worry that introducing a love interest will change his perspective on life.

“Anything that comes in contrast to that, and is disruptive to that — unless it serves a great creative purpose — I would be hesitant about,” he explained.

In case the writers decided to give in to the fans and push through with the love angle, Gad said that he will be more than happy to go through it, adding that he trusted their vision for Frozen 2.

In a separate interview with Cinema Blend, Gad shared that he also wanted to see a more mature Olaf in Frozen 2. The Pixels actor explained that since the original movie came out in 2013, Olaf is essentially a child in a sense that everything he experience is new to him. Although admittedly we do not know much about the sequel, it will be safe to say that Olaf has grown quite a bit since we last saw him.

“I’d love to see what being around in this world a little bit has taught him, or is teaching him,” Gad said.

The outlet speculated that viewers may see a “jaded and bitter” Olaf in Frozen 2. Although it is a bit far-fetched for the adorable character to turn into something dark, Cinema Blend held that it will be hilarious to see a different Olaf in the sequel.

“It would be an extreme reaction for him, but maybe once he learns more about the world, he decides he’s not nearly as impressed with it as he thought he’d be.”

Meanwhile, in an interview with MTV News, Frozen directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee shared that the sequel will still feature two strong female leads, Anna and Elsa. The love between the two sisters has always been the focal point of the story, and it seems like we can all expect the same theme for the sequel.

No matter where their next adventure will be, they assured fans that the two sisters will be together. Even if Elsa ended up having a love interest of her own, Frozen creators held that she will always put her family above anyone and everything else.

Much like other Disney films, Buck said that they will use this opportunity to teach the kids a thing or two about the social issues we have to deal with on a day-to-day basis.

“When the kids [watch] them, they watch them over and over again, and if we don’t have a decent message in there, I think we’ve missed an opportunity,” he explained.
