Julianna Margulies Sounds Off On ‘The Good Wife’ Feud With Former Co-star Archie Panjabi

The Good Wife is coming to a close, and while the show has always garnered critical acclaim, the show hasn’t been without its drama. There have been rumors for years now that star Julianna Margulies and former co-star Archie Panjabi were in a feud behind the scenes, despite their characters’ close friendship.

It all seemed like pointless gossip until Panjabi’s character Kalinda started to become a fan favorite. Eventually, the actress won an Emmy for her role. Then, Panjabi was saddled with a reckless storyline that went nowhere in the same year that Margulies became a producer on the show. After that, Panjabi’s role on the show was minimized, and the characters had a wedge between them that allowed the actresses to share zero screen time.

It was noticeable that there was something going on behind the scenes, because even when their characters had to interact in scenes, it seemed like great lengths were taken to ensure that they wouldn’t stand in the same scenes together. For instance, most of their interactions happened via phone calls, whereas in the earlier seasons they practically ended every episode side by side at the bar.

When CBS announced that Panjabi was moving on from the show, fans were eager to see the two actresses share screen time together. When the characters came together for one last drink at the bar, TV Line pointed out that the two actresses were superimposed in the scene, which really made the feud a full-blown news item in the media.

Now that The Good Wife is taking its final bow, its star Julianna Margulies, who has dodged questions about this feud, is putting everything to bed. That said, don’t expect Margulies to open up about it. During an interview with The New York Times, Margulies said, “It’s all silly gossip, and I don’t want to go there.”

Margulies opened up to Vulture last October about the initial firestorm. “There’s no story there, sorry… I actually had heard [that rumor] and I feel that it has been talked about and answered. I feel people just like to have gossip or make something into something that isn’t there.”

She continued, “It was shot the way Robert wanted to shoot it, and the story line, too. You also have to remember, there’s difficulty… [Panjabi] was also doing another show, called The Fall. I went along with whatever Robert asked me to do and I did it happily.”

Panjabi was happy to correct Margulies via social media to say that she was free to shoot the scene with Julianna. Panjabi retweeted the actress’ interview and said, “@TheFallTV was not even in production at that time and I was in New York ready to film the scene!”

Prior to it being revealed that the two actresses weren’t on location together during Archie’s last seen, the actress was cagey about whether or not she filmed her last seen with Margulies.

Obviously saving face for someone over a CBS, Panjabi said, “You know, I can’t answer that. It’s not fair for me to answer those decisions. As much as I want to. But those decisions are made by the producers. I’m not privy to those decisions. All I do know is I’m very grateful to the Kings for making the decision to cast me.”

While it’s easy to deduce there was a feud between the two actresses, it seems fans will never know the full story –at least, not in the near future.
