CBS Renews ‘The Bold And The Beautiful’ And ‘The Young And The Restless’ For Another Year

CBS announced the entire daytime lineup including The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful was renewed for another year, Deadline reported. The fans of the show can breathe a huge sigh of relief, as there was some tension that The Bold and the Beautiful could face cancellation. CBS also renewed The Price is Right and The Talk.

CBS has been the top-rated daytime network for over 29 years, and has shown no signs of slowing down. Currently, The Price Is Right is the No. 1 watched program on the CBS network. The Young and the Restless is the No. 1 watched soap opera on television.

Soap Opera Spy noted that the daytime viewers increased 2 percent in the past two years, and that was the reason to renew the shows. If that wasn’t reason enough, each of the CBS daytime programs snagged a Daytime Emmy Award nomination. Deadline noted that The Young and the Restless was previously renewed through 2017, so the announcement was merely a confirmation that the soap opera will continue.

The show most fans were worried about was The Bold and the Beautiful. The show had a rough year and steadily lost viewership. Apparently, the audience’s disapproval of the show didn’t hurt the renewal process, because the show will continue at least another year.

The Bold and the Beautiful has had a rough year as they continual push the envelope with their storylines. Last year, they made history when they revealed one of the main characters was a transgender woman. Just months after that reveal, they created more controversy when the transgender woman (Maya Avant) decided she wanted to be a mother, and convinced her young sister to carry her child. For many people, the show’s writing team was pushing the limit too far too often, and it turned away some long-time viewers.

The gamble worked, because CBS decided the soap opera is worth the risk for another year. For the Bold and the Beautiful fans, the renewal is great news. The audience has been worried for a few months that the soap opera could face cancellation by December. The Inquisitr previously reported that The Bold and the Beautiful was on the chopping block due to the ratings steadily decreasing. CBS ultimately decided to renew the soap opera for a year, so it’s possible they are giving it another year for the ratings to stabilize. Let’s just hope The Bold and the Beautiful stays on the air for many years to come.

“Each year, CBS Daytime produces more than 1,000 episodes of programming – the most for any broadcast network – which is only possible due to the incredible passion of the industry’s best creative talent, both in front of and behind the camera.”

The Young and the Restless was previously picked up on a multi-year renewal, which keeps the soap opera on air until 2018. In 2018, the fans are expecting the show to be renewed for another two to three years. The Young and the Restless is the No. 1 watched soap opera on television, with over five million daily viewers per day.
