May 2016 Free Games For Xbox Live Gold Members Revealed


The next set of free games for Xbox Live Gold members has been announced. Major Nelson shared that two Xbox 360 and two Xbox One titles that will be available for free this May.

Every month, as part of the “Games with Gold” promotion, Microsoft offers a fresh set of Xbox One and Xbox 360 titles for free that Xbox Live Gold members can enjoy. Check out the Twitter post from @majornelson, who is also known as Larry Hryb, about the free games for Xbox Live Gold members this May, 2016.

Starting May 1, Xbox One users with Gold subscriptions can get their own free copy of Defense Grid 2, a tower defense strategy and simulation game from Hidden Path Entertainment. Published by 505 Games, Defense Grid 2 regularly comes with a price tag worth $14.99, but for the entire month of May, it will be available at no cost at all for the Xbox Live Gold members. One of the highlights of Defense Grid 2 is its dynamic content, in which players will find the gameplay constantly changing, the game’s official product page on Xbox Store read.

The other Xbox One title included in the list of free games for Xbox Live Gold members for May, 2016, is Costume Quest 2, which is usually available for $14.99. From May 16 to June 15, Xbox One users can have the game as a free download. It is an action and adventure video game developed by Double Fine Productions and published by Midnight City.

Meanwhile, Xbox 360 users subscribed to Xbox Live Gold program will be able to enjoy GRID 2 for free. Interested eligible gamers can only download the racing game for free from May 1 until May 15. GRID 2, initially released in 2013, is the sequel to Race Driver: Grid. It was developed and published by Codemasters and Feral Interactive and has a regular price of $24.99. The description for the game, posted on Xbox Marketplace website, reads as follows.

“Be fast, be first and be famous as the race returns in GRID 2, the sequel to the BAFTA-award winning, multi-million selling Race Driver: GRID. Experience aggressive wheel-to-wheel competition, advanced AI, stunning visuals, jaw-dropping damage and feel the thrill of racing iconic cars in a new word of evolving motorsport.”

Beginning May 16, GRID 2 will be replaced by Peggle as a free game for Xbox Live Gold members for Xbox 360 owners. Worth $9.99, the puzzle video game from PopCap Games will be downloadable for $0 until May 31.

Also, Xbox owners still have a few days to take advantage of Microsoft’s free games for April. For instance, Xbox 360 users with Gold subscription have the opportunity to download Saints Row 4 until April 30. For Xbox One, Sunset Overdrive is part of Microsoft’s list of the April, 2016, free games and extends until May 15, according to a report from Mirror. It should also be noted that Xbox One owners can take advantage of the Backward Compatibility feature, which allows them to play and enjoy the free Xbox 360 games as well on the latest Microsoft console.

One of the easiest ways to download these free games is to use the “Games with Gold” tile located on the Home screen of the Xbox Console. According to Mirror, this will take gamers straight to the current free titles available. Another way is to go to the “Games” tab on Xbox 360 or the “Store” found on Xbox One. Players can also log in to the official Xbox site and access the “Games with Gold” page.
