Bruno Mars And Missy Elliot Hit The Studio: Is There A Collaboration In the Works?

The rumor mill is buzzing with the news that there could be a potential Bruno Mars and Missy Elliot collaboration in the works. This rumor is based on a Twitter post by Elliot showing the artists chillin’ in the studio. It’s been a minute since either artist has made any new music, so fans are really excited about the prospects of new music.

This is a continuation of Missy Elliots comeback. Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliot is already promoting new music with Pharell, who produced the track “WTF (Where They From)” last year. In an interview with Billboard, she estimated that new music could be coming sometime this year, and her fans are anxiously waiting. Her little meet up with Mars sure makes it look like she is trying to keep her promise to release the follow-up to her 2005 album, The Cookbook.

Neither Bruno Mars nor Missy Elliot is saying whether or not they are conspiring, but Elliots social media posts sure seem to be pointing in that direction.

“It’s so inspiring to vibe with ppl who can create real music & have a creative mind!”

Bruno Mars was supposed to release a new album already, but his album was delayed because of Super Bowl 50 rehearsals. Mars, who is working on his third album, isn’t quite sure when it will drop, but tentatively, it could happen in September or October according to NME, which interviewed Mars’ father Peter Hernandez.

“Bruno has seven great new songs – I’ve heard them – but the album should now be released in September or October, to qualify for next year’s Grammy Awards.”

Bruno Mars’ forthcoming record is a follow-up to his 2010 release Doo-Wops & Hooligans and Unorthodox Jukebox, released in 2012. In the midst of all of that joy is an annoying lawsuit brought on by Jonathon Puckett, a prison inmate who claims that Mars stole his song “Cry” and turned it into his breakout hit “Grenade,” although many have serious doubts. The Pinckneyville Correctional inmate is suing both Mars (Peter Gene Hernandez), and Atlantic Records for copyright infringement and is seeking $20 million.

Both musical artists have had breakout Super Bowl performances; Bruno Mars was part of the Super Bowl 50 festivities with Beyonce and Chris Martin, and Missy Elliott’s performance the year before with Katy Perry made people go out and buy her music again. Actually, Elliot had an Amazon commercial with Alec Baldwin and legendary NFL quarterback Dan Marion during Super Bowl 50, so technically, she participated in both events. It was at that time that she dropped “Pep Rally,” and her fans have been patiently waiting for something new ever since.

So are Bruno Mars and Missy Elliot collaborating? The general consensus is, probably. It makes sense; she is promising new music, and his album is past due. To further fan the rumor flames, Elliot has been collaborating a lot; she spent some quality studio time with Diplo and Skrillex in early 2015 on a remix of “Take U There,” as well as more music with Timbaland and Pharell. It seems that teasing fans is a trend with entertainers lately, and Elliot’s tweet is a full-on taunt, especially with neither camp confirming or denying they are working together.
