‘The Walking Dead’ Season 7: Could Filming Schedules Decide Who Negan Kills?

Some of The Walking Dead cast whose lives are in danger at the hands of Negan currently have other projects that could conflict with the filming schedule of the TV series. Just who are they and does that really put them at risk?

SPOILER ALERT: This article discusses Season 6 and 7 of AMC’s The Walking Dead as well as the comic books the TV series is based on. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.

At the moment, speculation about who Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) bashed to death in the Season 6 finale of The Walking Dead is rife. There are more theories on who died than actual characters in the lineup, and new theories are discovered daily. So, if checking which actors have other gigs lined up besides The Walking Dead, could an educated guess be made? Let’s have a look at what the others in the lineup are currently working on.

The Hollywood Reporter announced the actor who plays Glenn Rhee in The Walking Dead has just signed on for a movie called Okja. Now that’s fine, actors do movies all the time in between shooting of whatever TV series they are currently starring in. However, Okja’s filming schedule will contradict with the filming schedule of AMC’s The Walking Dead which begins on May 2. So is this proof that Glenn will die in the TV series just like he did in the comics?

Maybe, but maybe not. After all no news about the role Steven Yeun (who plays Glenn Rhee) will be playing in the movie has been released yet. He could be involved in a small part. According to IMDb he is listed fourth in the cast credits which could be an indicator of the size of the role. Although, considering no character names have been released there other than for Lily Collins, it could just be listed in fame order.

Perhaps more of a concern is the other movie on IMDb that Steven Yeun is starring in that bills him at top of the credits. The movie is called Mayhem and IMDb lists Yeun as starring as main character, Derek Cho, a man who is fired on the same day a virus is released into his workplace. While Mayhem is billed as a 2016 release, IMDb has it still listed as in production. So that makes two movies Yeun is working on that could affect whether he lives or dies at the hands of Negan and his baseball bat, Lucille.

Many people know Norman Reedus (who plays Daryl Dixon) has a new TV series coming up. While early on many fans were speculating that this would mean Daryl Dixon would be killed, the new series, entitled Ride With Norman Reedus, is due for release in June of this year, meaning it has already been filmed. That filming didn’t seem to affect his role in Season 6 of The Walking Dead, so if the show is picked up for a second season it seems unlikely it will make a big difference to Season 7 filming of The Walking Dead.

Another cast member who turns up in the “killed by Negan” theories all the time is Abraham. Played by Michael Cudlitz, so far this actor has nothing lined up other than The Walking Dead. While his number could still be up, it won’t be because of a filming schedule. Andrew Lincoln (who plays Rick Grimes), Ross Marquand (Aaron), Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha), Chandler Riggs (Carl), and Christian Serratos (Rosita) are all actors who can join Cudlitz as not having anything listed on IMDb that is upcoming or currently in production. Although this doesn’t mean they are safe, it just means they haven’t been forced to leave The Walking Dead because of other work commitments.

So that just leaves Lauren Cohan (Maggie), Danai Gurira (Michonne), and Josh McDermitt (Eugene). All of these actors currently have projects in the pipelines. Lauren will star as Leila Steinberg in the movie All Eyez on Me. She will star alongside another Walking Dead actor, Danai Gurira, in this movie that will chronicle the life of rapper Tupac Shakur. Danai will play Afeni Shakur, the mother of Shakur, in this movie. All Eyez on Me is currently filming and is slated for release in November of this year. Interesting to note is the fact that filming is underway in Georgia for this movie — the same location The Walking Dead is also filmed.

Josh McDermitt is the last actor who was in Negan’s line up. Currently, he has two things in production. In the movie Odious, McDermitt will play a character called Bill. Odious is currently being filmed. The other project he has lined up is Twin Peaks. So far he has only been billed to star in Episode 1 of the remake, but that also goes for the entire cast listed on the TV series. So could this mean McDermitt won’t have time to film two TV series at the same time? Only time will tell!
