The Romney/Ryan GOP ticket is now getting over 40% of the youth vote according to John Zogby’s polling firm, and Paul Ryan may be the reason why.

Zogby maintains younger voters’ “desire for hope and change has turned to disillusionment and unemployment,” and this time around they want real change.

Pollster John Zogby, a liberal Democrat, told The Examiner that Romney’s 41 percent share of the 18-29-year-old vote in a poll taken over the weekend is both a high-water mark for Romney and the most for any candidate who competed in the 2012 Republican primaries, and that “this could be trouble for Obama who needs every young voter he can get.” Barack Obama scored bigtime among the under-30 constituency in 2008.

Zogby, whose polling has had mixed accuracy in the past, also said that the youthfulness of GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan is providing a boost to the GOP ticket in the 18-29 cohort, which he refers to as “CENGAs” — i.e., “college educated, not going anywhere.”

There are all sorts of presidential polls out there right now, some — such as those conducted by the mainstream media to fit in with a preexisting narrative — with flawed methodology, so all polls should all be viewed with skepticism. As that old cliche goes, the only poll that matters is on election day.

Along these same lines of what the Zogby poll is suggesting, however, Daily Beast columnist Kirsten Powers (also a liberal Democrat) writes, in part:

Enter Ryan. While Democrats attack his Medicare plan as “radical” and portray him as pushing granny off the cliff, young people don’t seem to be buying this caricature. Or maybe “radical” is what they want…. The strongest opposition to Ryan’s plan comes from those over 65, who ironically won’t even be affected by his plan since it would only apply to those 55 and under…Name-calling and distortions of his plan by Democrats is not an effective long-term strategy, nor is it good for the country.

Separately, the Purple Poll found that the Ryan pick at this early stage has given Mitt Romney a small boost in the swing states of Ohio and Virginia, that Congressman Ryan is the best liked of the four candidates, and his selection has bolstered former Gov. Romney’s image.

Do you think the Millennials and the Gen-Y group will embrace the Romney/Ryan ticket on election day in November?
