Dakota Johnson: Are Sex Scenes Forcing Her Out Of The Film Industry?

In yesterday’s issue of Interview, actress Dakota Johnson of 50 Shades of Grey fame revealed that she is “over” the lengthy simulated sex scenes she has to work on constantly and that she is thinking about at least taking a break from film because she feels “suffocated” by the career.

When asked if she felt comfortable as an actor, Johnson admitted that she feels like it is not the right line of work for her.

“Right now, I’m known for making movies. And I wonder if that’s it. I don’t know. It doesn’t feel like it to me,” Johnson said.

“I still feel like I don’t know what I’m doing.”

“Like, I’m unsure of what my life will be like. I mean, I have such an obsession with making movies that I probably will always do that. But sometimes my life can feel so suffocating, and then it can feel so massive, like I don’t have a handle on it at all, and I don’t know where it’s going or what I’m going to do.”

Dakota’s father is Don Johnson, most famous for his work on Miami Vice, and Dakota grew up surrounded by actors. Johnson revealed, though, that she never felt at home in said community.

“I never really identified with any of them. I have one friend who I’m very close with, my friend Riley Keough, whose mother is Lisa Marie Presley,” recalled Johnson.

“But other than that, I don’t have very many pals who are… I don’t know. I kind of stayed away from it all.”

Dakota Johnson said that the feeling of not fitting in she felt during childhood grew into an active dislike for her profession as she aged.

As an example of one of the activities making her think twice about her star-studded occupation, Johnson talked about the grating sex scenes she is forced to partake in for 50 Shades Darker, the upcoming sequel to 50 Shades of Grey that, according to a report by Uproxx, will be even more explicit than its already infamously racy predecessor.

“Well, we’re not having actual sex,” Dakota stated.

“But I’ve been simulating sex for seven hours straight right now, and I’m over it.”

It’s understandable, especially when the sex being simulated is of the bondage and sadomasochism category for which the Fifty Shades series is famous, that Johnson would tire of the scenes.

Not only that, Johnson pointed out in the interview that she has to film all three of the movies – 50 Shades of Grey, 50 Shades Darker, and 50 Shades Freed – back-to-back, an experience Johnson described as “not comfortable” and “pretty tedious.”

Dakota Johnson herself is not the only one she feels her acting career impacts in a negative way, either; she thinks that the submissive sex toy role that she has cut out for herself is also an embarrassment to her family. When asked if Don Johnson had seen any of her sex scene-filled work, in fact, Dakota blushed and adamantly dismissed the idea.

“No! God, no. Thank God.”

Dakota Johnson is already guaranteed to appear in the remaining two 50 Shades film installments, she said, but what will she do afterwards if she really does decide to take a Hollywood hiatus?

If Johnson’s past is any indicator, she may embrace a modeling career. Dakota signed with IGM Models in 2006 and has, since then, done modeling work with brands such as MANGO jeans and Australian fashion label, Wish. Even now, she is regarded as one of the best-looking celebs in the biz.

Johnson may also delve deeper into feminism and support of women’s empowerment in film as she has already expressed interest in the subject.

“If I can be an advocate for women to do what they want with their bodies and not be ashamed of what they want, then I’m all for that,” Dakota said in a recent interview with Glamour.

Whatever Dakota Johnson ends up doing, it is a safe bet it will not involve countless hours of simulated BDSM, which is bound to be a load off her shoulders.
